SOCIAL HEALTH AUTHORITY SHORTLISTS CANDIDATES FOR VARIOUS POSITIONS
The Social Health Authority (SHA) has officially released the shortlist of candidates for various positions that were advertised on 5th August and 19th September 2025. This announcement follows the conclusion of the application review process under the Social Health Insurance Act, Act No. 16 of 2023.
The recruitment drive represents part of the government’s broader reforms in the health sector to enhance efficiency, accountability, and service delivery through the newly established Social Health Authority. The Authority’s mandate, as set out in the Act, includes managing the implementation of the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) and overseeing health coverage programs aimed at ensuring equitable access to healthcare services across Kenya.
Overview of the Recruitment and Shortlisting
Following the public advertisement through national newspapers and the SHA website, interested and qualified candidates were invited to submit their applications for various senior and mid-level positions. The closing dates for applications were set for 19th August and 3rd October 2025, respectively.
At the end of the application window, the Authority recorded an impressive total of 2,615 applications across all advertised roles. After a thorough vetting process, 158 candidates were shortlisted for interviews, while 2,457 applicants did not meet the shortlisting criteria.
Breakdown of Applications
According to the official shortlist notice, some positions attracted a particularly high number of applicants. For instance, the position of Assistant Director, Administration received 358 applications, with 18 candidates shortlisted. Similarly, the Assistant Director, Registration and Compliance post recorded 338 applications, of which 28 were shortlisted.
The Assistant Director, Finance and Accounts position attracted 243 applications, with 19 candidates making it to the shortlist. On the other hand, more specialized roles such as Assistant Director, Legal Services, Assistant Director, ICT, and Assistant Director, Claims Management had relatively fewer applicants, reflecting their technical nature and specialized qualification requirements.
This level of response indicates the high interest among professionals in joining the Authority as it continues to play a critical role in shaping Kenya’s health insurance and service delivery systems.
Recruitment Integrity and Process
The Social Health Authority emphasized that the shortlisting process was guided by principles of fairness, merit, and transparency. Each application was assessed based on the qualifications, relevant experience, and compliance with the criteria outlined in the advertisement.
The Authority has further assured all applicants that the recruitment and interview process remains entirely free of charge. Candidates are strongly cautioned against falling victim to fraudsters or intermediaries claiming to offer assistance or influence in the hiring process. All official communication regarding interview dates, venues, and requirements will be made through the SHA website and direct email notifications to shortlisted applicants.
Significance of the Recruitment
The shortlisting exercise reflects SHA’s commitment to building a skilled and competent workforce capable of driving its strategic objectives. As a newly established institution under the Social Health Insurance framework, the Authority’s success depends largely on the quality of professionals entrusted with implementing policies and programs that touch millions of Kenyan lives.
The new recruits are expected to strengthen the Authority’s administrative, legal, financial, and operational units. This, in turn, will enhance the delivery of efficient, transparent, and citizen-centered health insurance services. The Authority’s leadership has expressed confidence that the recruitment will contribute to better service coordination and stronger accountability mechanisms in the sector.

Preparing for the Interviews
Candidates who have made it to the shortlist are now moving into the next critical stage—the interview phase. The following are essential preparation tips to help them make the most of this opportunity:
- Understand the Mandate of SHA
Candidates should take time to familiarize themselves with the Social Health Authority’s vision, mission, and legislative framework under the Social Health Insurance Act. Understanding its objectives, such as promoting universal health coverage and managing SHIF contributions, is key to demonstrating organizational awareness during interviews. - Review the Job Description
Each applicant should carefully review the job description and understand the responsibilities and expectations tied to the position. Being conversant with the role’s deliverables shows preparedness and clarity of purpose. - Organize All Required Documents
Interviewees should carry both original and certified copies of their identification cards, academic transcripts, professional certificates, and other supporting documents as specified in the interview invitation. Proper document organization portrays professionalism. - Keep Up with Current Affairs in the Health Sector
Staying informed about recent developments in Kenya’s health sector—especially those related to health financing, insurance, and public policy—will help candidates answer sector-specific questions confidently. - Dress and Present Professionally
Appearance and demeanor play a significant role in creating first impressions. Candidates are encouraged to dress formally and maintain a calm, confident posture throughout the interview. - Practice for Common Questions
Candidates should prepare for both technical and behavioral questions. For example, interviewers may inquire about previous achievements, problem-solving strategies, and experiences that align with the Authority’s values. - Arrive Early and Stay Calm
Arriving at the interview venue ahead of time allows candidates to settle in, review their notes, and compose themselves before facing the panel. - Showcase Integrity and Professionalism
SHA’s mandate revolves around accountability and transparency. Demonstrating ethical decision-making, honesty, and professionalism during the interview can significantly influence the outcome. - Maintain Clear Communication
Candidates should listen carefully to questions, provide structured responses, and maintain steady eye contact. Clarity and confidence are indicators of preparedness and competence. - Follow Up Appropriately
After the interview, candidates should remain patient and await official communication from the Authority. Unsolicited follow-ups or visits to SHA offices are discouraged.
Encouragement for Unsuccessful Applicants
The Authority has acknowledged the overwhelming response to the job advertisement and extended appreciation to all who applied. While only a fraction of the total applicants advanced to the interview stage, SHA encourages those not shortlisted to remain positive and continue seeking opportunities in upcoming recruitment rounds.
Many public institutions periodically open new positions as they expand operations, and each recruitment process is unique. Applicants are advised to continue improving their skills, gaining additional qualifications, and monitoring official announcements for future opportunities.
