The role is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and cleanliness of all school facilities to ensure a safe, functional, and welcoming environment that supports effective teaching and learning. This includes supervising ground staff and coordinating maintenance activities for school events. The position covers the upkeep of buildings (both internal and external), furniture, plumbing, electrical systems, painting, gardening, staff accommodation, sports grounds, parking areas, and other school facilities. The objective of the role is to plan, organize, and manage day-to-day maintenance operations while ensuring efficient use of staff, equipment, and materials to maintain high standards of cleanliness, safety, and functionality across the school premises.
Duties and responsibilities include but not limited to;
- Contribute to creating the Monthly Maintenance Work Schedules for the site together with the other Site Overseer, Assistant Caretaker, Landscaper and Line Manager.
- In coordination with the Operations Manager, (or designated assistant), review the Maintenance request Google sheet or Maintenance book daily and take the appropriate action
Plan and coordinate work, staffing, and equipment requirements for all Maintenance work and scheduled events, as requested. - Manage and supervise all ground staff, including Gardeners, Landscaper, Painters, Artisans, Pool Attendants, Reverse Osmosis staff, Assistant Caretaker and Cleaners, overseeing work schedules and providing information for the Human Resource and Payroll departments in regard to contracts, leave, overtime. Consult as needed on formal procedures.
- Manage staff on short-term contracts and casuals within the department, and maintain attendance records for submission to Human Resource and Payroll departments as required.
- Liaise with Headteachers, teachers and relevant site personnel e.g. the Education Managers, Operations Manager, Public Relations Manager, Theatre Manager and review the weekly school calendar to be aware of lettings and school events that may need the department’s input.
- Assist with the Recruiting of Ancillary staff as necessary for the department in collaboration with the Executive Principal and organize the induction of new staff. Identify formal and informal training needs for all maintenance staff and how best to meet these. To ensure that all Health and Safety procedures are followed by maintenance staff, in accordance with Braeburn Group policy. Attend Health and Safety Committee meetings for the site as a member of the H&S committee.
- Carry out annual appraisal of maintenance staff in accordance with Braeburn Group Policy.
- Ensure all buildings are unlocked and locked at agreed times.
- Investigate and maintain a working knowledge of developments in maintenance equipment and materials and to identify means by which the maintenance operations might be developed.
- Provide Infrastructure and Operational support for school events as required.
- Perform any other duties or tasks within your capability as may be assigned by your line manager.

Qualifications and training required
- Technical diploma or degree equivalent in one or more of the following fields
- Building construction/civil worlds
- Electrical installation or maintenance
- Plumbing/Carpentry
- Facilities maintenance or general handyman training
- Health, safety and Environment training/certification
- Have a recent police clearance certificate
