About the Project
The Center for Epidemiological Modelling and Analysis (CEMA) is a University of Nairobi Center of Excellence established in 2020 to advance data-driven approaches in combating infectious diseases and strengthening public health across Africa. Supported by global partners including CEPI, the Gates Foundation, and the Wellcome Trust, CEMA leads research on outbreak response and disease control.
The advertised position is part of a 24-month, multi-site study titled Accelerating CHIKungunya burden Estimation to inform Vaccine Evaluation (ACHIEVE), funded by the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI).
Position Summary
Reporting to the Project Coordinator – ACHIEVE, the Clinical Officer will provide high-quality clinical services to support participant recruitment, screening, treatment, and follow-up, while ensuring compliance with the study protocol, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), and ethical standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Recruit, screen, enroll, and follow up study participants according to protocol.
- Obtain informed consent/assent and uphold participant safety and confidentiality.
- Conduct clinical examinations, diagnosis, and treatment, ensuring appropriate referrals.
- Complete Case Report Forms (CRFs) and other documentation within the REDCap system.
- Prescribe treatment per Ministry of Health (MOH) and study guidelines.
- Monitor and document adverse events and ensure biosafety and ethical compliance.
- Supervise and mentor study nurses and ensure a safe clinical environment.
- Perform other study-related tasks as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
- Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery or equivalent from a recognized institution.
- Valid registration and practicing license from the Clinical Officers Council (COC).
- Certificate in Computer Applications.
- At least three (3) years of clinical experience in a hospital or research setting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and email.
- Experience with infectious disease research and familiarity with REDCap are added advantages.
- Knowledge of local languages spoken in Isiolo County is desirable.

Terms of Appointment
