The Technologist, Biomedical will be responsible for ensuring the effective operation, maintenance, and calibration of biomedical equipment across the healthcare facility. This position plays a critical role in supporting clinical operations by ensuring that diagnostic, therapeutic, and laboratory devices perform optimally and comply with safety standards.

Job Description

The primary duties of the Biomedical Technologist include the following:

  1. Equipment Maintenance and Calibration
    • Conduct regular preventive maintenance on biomedical instruments and equipment in accordance with the manufacturer’s guidelines and institutional policies.
    • Calibrate medical devices to ensure accuracy, reliability, and compliance with healthcare standards.
    • Record all maintenance and calibration activities systematically for audit and compliance purposes.
  2. Technical Support and Troubleshooting
    • Provide immediate technical assistance to clinical departments experiencing equipment malfunctions.
    • Diagnose faults in medical devices and perform necessary repairs or coordinate external servicing where required.
    • Offer on-site support during emergencies or critical care situations that require immediate biomedical intervention.
  3. Procurement and Equipment Evaluation
    • Collaborate with procurement and supply chain teams to identify, evaluate, and recommend appropriate biomedical equipment and accessories.
    • Assist in the development of technical specifications for new equipment purchases.
    • Participate in commissioning and acceptance testing of new biomedical devices.
  4. Compliance and Safety Assurance
    • Ensure all biomedical equipment adheres to applicable safety regulations and standards, including those set by the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) and international regulatory bodies.
    • Maintain accurate documentation for compliance audits and inspections.
    • Support continuous quality improvement programs related to equipment management and patient safety.
  5. Training and Capacity Building
    • Provide guidance and technical training to clinical staff on the safe use and basic maintenance of biomedical equipment.
    • Promote awareness on best practices for equipment handling, cleaning, and storage.
    • Assist in the development of equipment-related policies and standard operating procedures.
