Introduction
The One Mara Carbon Project (OMCP) presents a distinguished leadership opportunity for a visionary and experienced individual to serve as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). This position offers the chance to lead a groundbreaking environmental initiative in one of Africa’s most iconic and ecologically rich landscapes—the Maasai Mara.
OMCP is dedicated to promoting ecosystem-level conservation and restoration through a community-based carbon project designed to protect biodiversity, rehabilitate degraded lands, and provide both climate and economic benefits to local populations. The project operates in the savannah ecosystem north and northeast of the Maasai Mara National Reserve, an area renowned for its wildlife diversity and the long-standing Maasai herding traditions that define the region.
This leadership role calls for a professional who can translate conservation and sustainability goals into tangible outcomes—balancing ecological preservation, community empowerment, and carbon market engagement. The CEO will guide OMCP through a period of strategic growth, institutional development, and operational excellence, ensuring that the project achieves measurable climate impact and long-term viability.
About the One Mara Carbon Project (OMCP)
OMCP is a large-scale ecosystem conservation initiative operating across the Maasai Mara landscape. Its primary mission is to protect and restore rangeland ecosystems, foster biodiversity conservation, and generate sustainable livelihoods for the local Maasai communities by engaging in carbon offset programs. The initiative seeks to curb emissions, rehabilitate degraded landscapes, enhance livestock production through improved grazing management, and introduce alternative livelihood options for communities living within and around the project area.
OMCP’s objectives are anchored on collaboration among key partners: Conservation International (CI), the Maasai Mara Wildlife Conservancies Association (MMWCA), and Ahueni. Together, these partners support the project in implementing climate-smart conservation strategies, developing institutional frameworks, and achieving carbon credit certification under recognized international standards.
Through its innovative model, OMCP combines environmental stewardship with socioeconomic advancement, ensuring that the benefits of conservation reach local households while strengthening the ecological resilience of the Maasai Mara ecosystem.
