Organizational Context

The WFP Eastern and Southern Africa Regional Office (ESARO), based in Nairobi, Kenya, is part of the Global Headquarters. Within ESARO, the Global Corridor Coordination team under Supply Chain and Delivery (SCD) Division coordinates reliable and efficient corridor operations and directly manages the South Africa/Durban corridor operations.
The Corridor Operations unit is responsible for ensuring the timely and reliable delivery of food and non-food items across the region through regional corridor management, as well as the direct operation of the South Africa/Durban corridor operations.
The Logistics Assistant – Operations Optimization works under the supervision of the Corridor Operations Lead.
Job Purpose
To support advanced coordination, analytical, and governance support for regional corridor operations, ensuring COs have consistent, accurate information and are aligned with established agreements, compliance requirements, and performance frameworks.
Key Accountabilities (not all-inclusive)
1. Regional Coordination and Optimization Support
- Support the preparation and facilitation of regional corridor coordination calls and workshops, ensuring agendas, action trackers, and follow-up are complete
- Facilitate coordination calls for emergency operations, when required.
- Identify and escalate operational issues to the corridor manager for resolution.
- Provide COs with analytical support for ad-hoc decision-making.
- Maintain and update corridor master data.
- Support end-to-end movement coordination and visibility by ensuring data quality.
- Support exception management and timely issue resolution.
- Support the corridor manager in GCMF stock pre-positioning decisions through corridor stocks and cost analysis.
- Strengthen the regional corridor data-sharing framework and ensure interoperability across COs.
2. South Africa/Durban corridor operations
- Contribute to budgeting and reconciliation processes for South Africa/Durban corridor operations.
- Ensure South Africa/Durban corridor operations are fully integrated into CBAs and reconciliations.
- Provide regional overview of South Africa/Durban corridor operations, ensuring throughput, staffing updates, and performance are consolidated into corridor regional operations reporting.
- Facilitate information flow between the Durban hub team, Nairobi RO corridor unit, and COs on dispatch priorities, stock pre-positioning, and cost recovery mechanisms.
- Document lessons learned from South Africa/Durban corridor operations and feed into regional efficiency improvement initiatives.
- Participate, when required, in compliance and support missions to South Africa/Durban corridor operations.
- Support Corridor Operations Lead as needed.
- Alternate Logistics Consultant for South Africa/Durban corridor operations as needed.
Expected Deliverables
- Regional corridor coordination call/workshop packages (agenda, minutes, action trackers).
- Swift resolution of irregularities for regional corridor operations.
- Oversight and integration of Durban Corridor hub operations into regional corridor frameworks.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
Education: Completion of secondary school education. Post-secondary training or university courses in finance, accounting, or supply chain is desirable.
Experience: Practical experience in supply chain and data analysis.
Languages: Fluency in English (oral and written).
Desired Knowledge & Skills
- Good knowledge of logistics data analysis.
- Familiarity with WFP systems (WINGS/ LESS, invoice tracking).
- Familiarity with WFP regional/global corridor operations.
- Ability to liaise effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
