The Beacon Scholarship is a Changemaker programme that offers access for financially disadvantaged students to top tier secondary schools in their home country.
The programme includes leadership training and development, a strong Mentoring structure, and a goal-setting performance management system.
All applicants must be able to demonstrate that they are ‘Changemakers’ i.e.
- They are already making a difference now; and
- A capacity to take people with them.
The School Scholarship
Beacon Scholarships for Secondary School Candidates from Kenya,
Up to eight new Beacon Scholarships for School are available for the 2026/27 academic year for secondary schooling.
Candidates must be:
- Between 13 and 18 years old.
- Nominated by their current school head.
Eligible candidates will be invited to:
- Complete a full application for a Beacon Scholarship for School.
- Gain admission to a Beacon Partner School.
- Undergo evaluation by Beacon for academic ability, leadership potential, changemaker qualities, and financial need.
The Beacon Scholarship for Schools
For students to gain admission and attend at a Beacon Partner School. Tuition (and boarding) fees are split three ways: 1/3 School; 1/3 Beacon; 1/3 Scholar Parents/Sponsors.
Eligibility requirements:
- Must be a national of and ordinarily resident in Kenya
- Age 13-18
- Must show evidence of strong leadership capabilities in four areas:
- Academic excellence;
- Achievement in sport, music, or drama;
- Social Influence & Communication;
- Citizenship.
The Beacon Scholarship for University
For undergraduate study, medicine, dentistry, and veterinary sciences excluded. Candidates must already hold an offer from a Beacon Partner university in order to qualify. Tuition and maintenance fees are split three ways: 1/3 University Partner; 1/3 Beacon; 1/3 Scholar Parents/Sponsors/Guardians.
Beacon Partner Universities currently include: University of Birmingham; University of Bristol; University of Cambridge; Cardiff University; Imperial College London; London School of Economics; University of Surrey.
Eligibility requirements:
- Must be a national of and normally resident in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, or Zambia
- Must show evidence of strong leadership capabilities in four areas:
- Academic excellence;
- Achievement in sport, music, or drama;
- Social Influence & Communication;
- Citizenship.
