Daraja Academy provides a safe place for girls who would not have access to a high school education any other way. It is a beacon of hope, safety, and future promise for marginalized girls to grow their innate leadership skills. Daraja provides a rigorous academic program to prepare girls for the KCSE (Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education) national exams and future admission to college and university. But the core program, centered on a culture of peace, distinguishes Daraja from every other high school.
Students are selected based on need, academic scores, and leadership potential. With a diverse student population from 47 counties, students embody the phrase “We are one Kenya”.
Scholarship
Every girl admitted receives a full 4-year scholarship and commits to “pay forward” her sponsorship by providing 60 hours of community service each year. Daraja girls from all over Kenya volunteer in hospitals, churches, and schools to become role models and leaders in their communities.
Application Tips for the Daraja Scholarship
- Attach all required documents – your Grade Nine assessment report, KJSEA results, and Head Teacher’s recommendation letter. Missing documents can automatically disqualify you.
- Highlight strong academic performance – clearly show how you met the academic requirement (Exceeding Expectation 2 / Meeting Expectation 1 & 2).
- Explain financial need honestly and clearly – give real examples of challenges your family faces in paying school fees.
- Demonstrate leadership – mention positions held, times you helped others, or moments you showed good leadership qualities.
- Write compositions yourself – the instructions say the student must write without assistance. Use your own voice, be truthful, and write at least 3 paragraphs where required.
- Be detailed in your answers – short essays may lead to disqualification. Provide stories, examples, and clear explanations.
- Show your pathway interest (STEM, Arts & Sports, or Social Sciences) – explain why you chose it and how it fits your dreams.
- Be honest in the health and family sections – these questions do NOT affect selection; they are for understanding your background.
- Provide accurate contacts for references – include active phone numbers for chief/elder and social worker to avoid delays in verification.
- Submit early – send your application through email, WhatsApp, or post before the deadline to avoid last-minute issues or missing the cutoff.
