CEMA, a Center of Excellence at the University of Nairobi established in 2020, unites experts
from multiple disciplines to use data-driven approaches in tackling infectious diseases and
improving public health in Africa. It has guided responses to COVID-19 and other outbreaks,
advanced disease control efforts, and strengthened capacity in health data analysis with
support from major global funders such as the Gates Foundation, Coalition for Epidemic
Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), and the Wellcome Trust.
