MECHANICAL ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (ONE POST)

The Mechanical Engineering Technician position is a technical support role within the mechanical engineering department. The role is primarily focused on supporting practical training activities, maintaining workshop equipment, and ensuring the effective operation of mechanical systems used for instructional purposes. The technician will work closely with trainers, departmental heads, and trainees to ensure that workshops are functional, safe, and adequately resourced.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Mechanical Engineering Technician will be responsible for providing technical support during practical training sessions. This includes assisting trainers and trainees in the use of workshop machinery and tools to ensure learning objectives are achieved safely and effectively.
The role involves operating conventional workshop machines, including the conventional lathe machine, conventional milling machine, and surface grinding machine. The technician will also be required to operate Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines, specifically CNC lathe machines and CNC milling machines, to support modern manufacturing and machining training.
The technician will provide support in the installation, operation, servicing, and maintenance of mechanical equipment within the institution. This includes ensuring that all machinery is properly installed, functional, and maintained according to recommended standards.
Another key responsibility is providing technical support in the area of specialty by repairing and maintaining the institution’s mechanical works. This involves diagnosing faults, carrying out repairs, and ensuring that equipment downtime is minimized.
The technician will be responsible for maintaining workshop inventories. This includes receiving and issuing tools and materials, keeping accurate records, and ensuring that sufficient materials are available in the workshop at all times to support training activities.
Ensuring health and safety standards is a critical function of this role. The technician will observe, enforce, and promote health and safety procedures within the workshop environment, report accidents promptly, and contribute to a safe learning and working space.
The role includes making requisitions for consumables to ensure they are replenished in a timely manner. Consumables should be organized in a way that allows for easy identification, tracking, and accountability.
The technician will prepare maintenance schedules for all workshop equipment and submit them for approval by the Head of Department. The role also requires maintaining accurate records of servicing schedules for various equipment and machinery to ensure adherence to approved maintenance plans.
Advising the section head on budgeting requirements for the workshop is another responsibility. This ensures that all workshop needs are factored into the institutional budgeting process and that resources are allocated appropriately.
The technician will segregate non-functional equipment and machinery to promote safety within the workshop and prevent accidents or misuse of faulty equipment.
The role further involves providing procurement specifications for workshop equipment to be purchased. This ensures that the institution acquires the correct equipment that meets training and operational requirements.
The technician will report breakdowns of machinery and equipment to the head of department and provide input on replacement needs where repairs are no longer viable.
Supervision of workshop cleaning is also part of the role, with the aim of promoting general cleanliness of the workshop and maintaining equipment in good condition.

Another responsibility is assisting in the development and implementation of crop and livestock duties. This includes supporting crop production activities, livestock management, and related farm operations.
The role involves assisting in the preparation of annual farm budgets and accounts, ensuring that farm activities are financially sustainable and aligned with institutional objectives.
The Agriculture Technician will take trainees through practical sessions, demonstrating farming techniques, supervising hands-on activities, and reinforcing theoretical knowledge through practice.
Preparing crop production schedules is part of the role. This ensures that planting, maintenance, and harvesting activities are planned and executed in a timely manner.
The technician will be responsible for keeping accurate farm records, including production data, input usage, livestock records, and other relevant information.
Managing livestock on the farm is another key responsibility. This includes feeding, housing, health monitoring, and general welfare of animals used for training and production.

The role involves detecting common mechanical faults in assigned vehicles and reporting them promptly to ensure timely maintenance and repair.
Carrying out minor repairs is part of the driver’s responsibilities, within the scope of competence and institutional guidelines.
The driver will maintain work tickets for vehicles assigned, ensuring that all trips, mileage, fuel usage, and related details are accurately recorded.
Ensuring the safety of passengers and goods at all times is a critical responsibility. This includes adherence to traffic laws, defensive driving practices, and institutional transport policies.
Maintaining cleanliness of assigned vehicle or vehicles is also required, ensuring that vehicles are presentable and hygienic at all times.
The Driver I will perform any other duties as may be assigned by superiors in line with institutional transport and logistics needs.

Valid driving license class D3.
Passed suitability test for drivers Grade II.
Possession of a PSV badge for institutional use.
