The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is a leading African research-to-policy institution dedicated to generating high-quality evidence, strengthening research and implementation capacity, and promoting the effective use of data to inform policies and programs across the continent. The Center works at the interface of research, capacity development, and policy engagement, with the objective of ensuring that development decisions in Africa are grounded in credible, contextually relevant evidence.
APHRC plays a critical role in advancing the African research and development ecosystem through a deliberate focus on building strong African research leadership and institutional capacity. Its work emphasizes the translation of research findings into actionable insights that can inform policy formulation, program design, and implementation. Through sustained engagement with governments, development partners, and practitioners, APHRC promotes evidence-informed decision-making across sub-Saharan Africa, contributing to improved outcomes in health, education, and broader development sectors.
Role of APHRC in the TeachWell Project
As the research and learning partner within the TeachWell Project consortium, APHRC is responsible for generating implementation-focused evidence to support learning, adaptation, and scale-up of project interventions. The TeachWell Project seeks to strengthen teaching quality and improve learning environments in refugee and host community schools, where educators often operate under constrained and complex conditions.
Within this partnership, APHRC is conducting an Implementation and Fidelity Study aimed at assessing:
- The extent to which TeachWell interventions are delivered as originally designed.
- How the interventions are adopted and implemented within school settings.
- The contextual factors that influence implementation quality and consistency.
- Teachers’ experiences with the core components of the TeachWell Project.
The study focuses on understanding how teachers in refugee and host community schools engage with and apply key TeachWell interventions, including:
- Professional development and instructional support provided to teachers.
- Changes in instructional practices within classrooms.
- Classroom environment and learning conditions.
- Selected aspects of teacher well-being relevant to instructional quality and retention.
The findings from this study are intended to inform program refinement, strengthen implementation strategies, and contribute to broader evidence on education interventions in displacement-affected and resource-constrained settings.
