This position requires individuals who can follow instructions, work under supervision, and carry out repetitive physical tasks efficiently and responsibly. The role is operational in nature and plays a critical part in ensuring that county facilities remain functional, presentable, and conducive to service delivery.
Job Description
The Casual Worker / General Laborer will be responsible for carrying out routine and assigned tasks related to cleaning, maintenance, and general support services. The work may be performed in indoor and outdoor environments, depending on the assigned duty station. Flexibility, reliability, and a strong work ethic are essential for effective performance in this role.
Duties and Responsibilities
- General Cleaning and Housekeeping
- Dusting surfaces, furniture, fixtures, and equipment to remove dirt and maintain cleanliness.
- Sweeping floors and open areas to ensure they are free from dust, litter, and debris.
- Mopping floors using appropriate cleaning materials to maintain hygiene and safety standards.
- Specialized Cleaning Tasks
- Vacuuming carpets, rugs, and other floor coverings where applicable.
- Cleaning ceiling vents, walls, windows, and other fixtures to prevent the buildup of dust and grime.
- Maintaining cleanliness within hospital wards, offices, halls, corridors, and other designated areas in accordance with hygiene requirements.
- Maintenance of Public Spaces
- Carrying out routine cleaning and upkeep of public areas such as markets, waiting bays, corridors, and common spaces.
- Ensuring that public spaces remain neat, orderly, and presentable throughout working hours.
- Assisting in the arrangement and organization of furniture and equipment as required.
- Errands and Support Duties
- Running errands as instructed by supervisors or designated officers.
- Assisting with the movement of materials, supplies, or equipment within the assigned facility.
- Supporting other operational tasks that facilitate smooth day-to-day activities within the workplace.
- Compliance and Supervision
- Following instructions provided by supervisors and adhering to assigned work schedules.
- Observing workplace safety, hygiene, and conduct standards at all times.
- Reporting any maintenance issues, hazards, or concerns observed during the course of duty.
- Additional Duties
- Performing any other duty as may be assigned by the supervisor from time to time, in line with the nature of the role and operational needs.
Requirements for Appointment

- Citizenship
- Must be a Kenyan citizen.
- Educational Requirements
- Possession of a Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) is required.
- Applicants who hold a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) will have an added advantage.
- Physical and Medical Fitness
- Must be physically fit and able to perform manual and repetitive tasks.
- Must be medically fit to undertake general labor and housekeeping duties.
