Detailed Job Description

The Instant Network School (INS) Coach will be responsible for a broad range of duties that support teaching and learning through ICT integration. The role requires a balance of instructional competence, technical understanding, coordination skills, and collaboration with school stakeholders. The duties outlined below reflect the core areas of responsibility associated with the position.

Curriculum-Based ICT Instruction

The INS Coach will be responsible for planning and delivering structured ICT instruction in line with the approved curriculum and the Competency-Based Curriculum guidelines. This includes teaching basic computer skills to students, introducing them to commonly used digital applications, and supporting the development of foundational digital literacy. Lessons are expected to be age-appropriate, relevant to the secondary school context, and aligned with national education standards.

In addition to technical skills, the INS Coach will promote responsible and ethical use of the internet. This includes guiding students on online safety, digital citizenship, appropriate online behavior, and critical evaluation of digital information. The coach will ensure that students understand both the opportunities and risks associated with internet use, particularly within a school-based learning environment.

Support to Teachers and Learners

A key component of the role involves providing ongoing support to teachers and students in the use of educational digital tools and platforms. The INS Coach will work collaboratively with subject teachers to integrate technology into lesson delivery, including joint planning and co-teaching where appropriate. This support may involve demonstrating the use of digital resources, assisting with lesson preparation, and helping teachers adapt traditional teaching methods to include digital elements.

The INS Coach will also support students directly, both during scheduled ICT lessons and through guided use of the INS classroom facilities. This includes assisting learners in navigating digital platforms, accessing online learning materials, and completing assignments that require the use of ICT tools.

In addition, the INS Coach will support the completion and monitoring of required forms and reports related to the use of digital platforms and online systems. This includes ensuring that usage data is accurately captured and that relevant documentation is completed in a timely manner.

Management of INS Classroom and ICT Resources

The position requires responsibility for the day-to-day management and coordination of the Instant Network School classroom and associated ICT equipment. This includes overseeing access to the ICT room, ensuring that devices are used appropriately, and maintaining proper custody of keys and equipment.

The INS Coach will establish and enforce clear procedures for the use of ICT resources, working in collaboration with school administration to ensure that schedules, access controls, and usage rules are respected. The aim is to maximize equitable access to resources while minimizing misuse, damage, or loss.

The coach will also be expected to ensure that devices such as tablets, laptops, projectors, and networking equipment are handled properly by both staff and students. This involves providing basic guidance on correct handling and storage of equipment and reinforcing best practices for equipment care.

ICT Equipment Maintenance and Troubleshooting

The INS Coach will play an active role in maintaining ICT equipment at the school level. This includes conducting basic troubleshooting for common technical issues, such as connectivity problems, device malfunctions, or software-related challenges. While complex repairs may be referred to specialized technical teams, the INS Coach is expected to resolve routine issues to minimize disruption to teaching and learning activities.

As part of equipment management responsibilities, the INS Coach will complete monthly maintenance reports, documenting the status of ICT resources, any faults identified, and actions taken. The coach will report equipment losses, damages, or unresolved technical issues promptly to the school Principal and relevant Windle International Kenya staff, following established reporting procedures.

Contribution to Programme Monitoring and Improvement

Beyond daily operational duties, the INS Coach is expected to contribute to the continuous improvement of the Instant Network School programme. This includes collecting and organizing data related to ICT usage, lesson delivery, and learner engagement. The coach will support the documentation of success stories, challenges, and lessons learned from the implementation of the programme at the school level.

The role also involves close collaboration with school administration and participation in meetings, reviews, and planning sessions related to ICT integration and digital learning. The INS Coach may be required to participate in training sessions and professional development activities organized by Windle International Kenya or partner organizations, with the aim of strengthening technical and pedagogical skills.

Through these activities, the INS Coach will support evidence-based decision-making and contribute to the refinement of programme approaches, ensuring that digital learning interventions remain responsive to the needs of teachers and learners in the Dadaab context.
