The Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) invites applications from qualified, competent, and motivated individuals to fill several vacant positions across its research and operational centres in Kenya. These opportunities are offered on a contract basis and are aimed at strengthening KEMRI’s capacity to deliver on its mandate of conducting health research, generating scientific evidence, and supporting national and global health priorities.

KEMRI is a state corporation established to carry out health research that contributes to improved health outcomes, disease prevention, control strategies, and evidence-based policy formulation. Through its diverse research programmes, laboratories, and field stations, the Institute plays a critical role in advancing medical science, public health innovation, and research excellence.

The advertised positions cut across finance, administration, and clinical services and are based in different regions of the country.   1. Senior Accountant – Eldoret

The Senior Accountant position supports financial management, accounting controls, and reporting functions within KEMRI’s operations in Eldoret. The role is responsible for ensuring accurate financial records, compliance with financial policies, and effective support to research and operational activities.

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Preparing and maintaining accurate financial records in accordance with approved accounting standards
  • Supporting budgeting, budget monitoring, and expenditure control processes
  • Processing payments, invoices, and financial transactions in a timely and accurate manner
  • Reconciling accounts, bank statements, and financial records
  • Supporting preparation of financial reports for management and donors
  • Ensuring compliance with KEMRI financial policies, procedures, and audit requirements
  • Supporting internal and external audit processes
  • Monitoring utilization of funds and reporting variances
  • Maintaining proper documentation and filing of financial records
  • Providing financial support to research projects and operational units
  • Performing any other accounting duties assigned by the supervisor
  1. Administrator – Eldoret

The Administrator position provides administrative, coordination, and operational support to KEMRI’s activities in Eldoret. The role ensures efficient office operations, proper records management, and effective support to research and institutional functions.

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating day-to-day administrative operations within the assigned office
  • Managing office records, files, and documentation systems
  • Supporting procurement and logistics processes in line with institutional procedures
  • Coordinating meetings, workshops, and official engagements
  • Managing office supplies, assets, and inventory records
  • Supporting human resource administrative processes where required
  • Liaising with internal departments and external stakeholders

The Clinical Officer position supports clinical research and health service delivery activities at KEMRI’s Gilgil site. The role contributes to patient care, clinical data collection, and implementation of research protocols.

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Providing clinical care and services in accordance with approved protocols
  • Supporting implementation of clinical research studies and trials
  • Conducting patient assessments, examinations, and follow-ups
  • Collecting, recording, and maintaining accurate clinical data
  • Supporting informed consent processes and ethical research practices
  • Collaborating with research teams, clinicians, and laboratory staff
  • Ensuring adherence to infection prevention and control standards

  • Conducting clinical assessments, diagnosis, and treatment as required

Terms of Employment

All positions are offered on a contract basis under the terms and conditions set by the Kenya Medical Research Institute. Deployment will be to the specified duty stations based on operational requirements.
