Job Summary

Java House is seeking to recruit 30 Waitstaff to support food and beverage service operations in Nairobi. The role is responsible for delivering excellent customer service in a clean, safe, and professional restaurant environment. The successful candidates will ensure timely service delivery, accurate order processing, and adherence to established service standards.

Primary Purpose of the Role

The Waitstaff will be responsible for taking and serving food and beverage orders in accordance with Java service standards. The role requires maintaining a clean service environment, promptly attending to guests, and ensuring a positive dining experience from order placement to payment processing.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidates will:

  • Present a variety of menu options to guests and take the lead in suggestive selling based on customer preferences.
  • Assist guests in navigating the menu comfortably and making informed choices.
  • Take accurate food and beverage orders and deliver them neatly to the table in accordance with ticket specifications.
  • Present bills promptly and process payments accurately, including returning correct change.
  • Meet, greet, and seat guests in a timely and professional manner.
  • Ensure prompt food and beverage service delivery to customers.
  • Clean, clear, and organize tables and condiments to maintain hygiene standards.
  • Attend to assigned tables and ensure compliance with cleanliness and food safety standards.
  • Check the quality of final servings and resolve any issues in line with recommended food and beverage standards.
  • Properly utilize company resources and minimize wastage.
  • Participate in accurate stock-taking processes.
  • Attend shift briefings and communicate effectively with guests and team members.
  • Ensure necessary orders for mise en place are communicated to the manager for replenishment.

Key Performance Indicators

Performance in this role will be measured through:

  • Net Promoter Score (NPS) and customer satisfaction levels.
  • Compliance with food safety standards.
  • Integrity and professionalism in service delivery.
  • Sales per person and effective upselling.
  • Efficient station management and organization.

Qualifications and Skills

Applicants must demonstrate:

  • Ability to work under pressure and for extended hours.
  • Strong upselling skills and the ability to inform guests about new menu products.
  • Team-oriented mindset and customer-focused approach.
  • Effective planning and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Point of Sale (POS) systems.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Results-oriented, self-driven, articulate, and proactive behavior.

Special Conditions of Employment

  • Sound knowledge of menu items and product offerings.
  • KCSE certificate with a minimum mean grade of C (Plain).
  • Minimum of six months’ experience within the company or equivalent experience in a food and beverage establishment.
