The Academy Fellow role is a residential position designed to support the academic and residential life of students within the Aga Khan Academy community. Fellows live within the Academy residential facilities and play an integral role in mentoring and guiding students through both academic and personal development.
The position is structured to allow fellows to engage closely with students in residential settings while also contributing to academic support and service learning initiatives. Fellows are expected to promote community life within the residential programme while providing mentorship and guidance to students.
Academy Fellows do not serve as full-time classroom teachers. However, they are expected to maintain meaningful engagement with the academic programme through scheduled contact with classes and by supporting students academically outside classroom hours.
The role combines residential mentorship, tutoring support, service learning programme coordination, and participation in co-curricular activities.
Key Responsibilities
Supporting the Residential Programme
• Living within Academy residential facilities and serving as a Residential Parent responsible for fostering a supportive and inclusive community environment for students.
• Promoting positive community life within the student residential programme.
• Guiding residential students in achieving their personal and academic goals.
• Developing strong mentoring relationships with students within assigned dormitories.
• Monitoring student wellbeing and supporting their academic and social development.
• Checking in with students regularly to provide guidance and support.
• Supervising residential students during scheduled duty periods, including twice weekly supervision and one weekend duty every three weeks.
• Providing mentorship to a small group of students to support their academic progress and social development.
Academic Engagement and Student Support
• Participating in classroom engagement to remain familiar with the teaching and learning processes of the Academy.
• Supporting students with tutoring outside of regular classroom hours and during residential study sessions.
• Providing approximately ten hours per week of academic support to selected classes in subjects aligned with the fellow’s academic background.
• Supporting approximately two to three classes each week with academic reinforcement.
• Offering tutoring support particularly in Mathematics, Science, or English as an Additional Language where required.
• Assisting students from the Talent Identification Programme who join the Academy from marginalized communities in Kenya.
Service Learning Programme Coordination
• Developing and delivering the Service Learning Programme for students in Years 6 to 10.
• Planning weekly service learning activities designed to build leadership and civic responsibility among students.
• Coordinating with community partners to organize meaningful service opportunities for students.
• Delivering the programme in collaboration with students and colleagues across the Academy.
• Supporting student groups in planning and implementing community-based service projects.

Co-Curricular and Enrichment Activities
• Actively contributing to the Academy’s co-curricular activities programme.
