PhD Fellowship – KEMRI, Kenya and Oslo, Norway

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct ethnographic, qualitative, and/or policy research aligned with project objectives.
  • Participate in project meetings, seminars, and workshops at KEMRI and UiO.
  • Present research findings at national, regional, and international academic and policy forums.
  • Contribute to project reports, dissemination outputs (policy briefs, blog posts, podcasts), and public engagement activities.
  • Work closely with the respective PIs and interdisciplinary research team.
  • For PhD candidate: complete coursework and submit a doctoral thesis within three years.
  • For Postdoctoral Fellow: publish 2-3 peer-reviewed scientific articles within three years.

3Documented experience with qualitative research methodologies.Mandatory
4Excellent written and oral proficiency in English and Kiswahili.Mandatory
5Proven independent research experience in East Africa.Mandatory
6Demonstrated ability to complete writing projects within deadlines.Mandatory
7Strong motivation and suitability for doctoral research.Mandatory
8Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and preferably NVivo or other qualitative data analysis software.Mandatory
9Demonstrated interest in global health governance and international development policy.Mandatory
10Evidence of peer-reviewed publication(s) will be an added advantage.Added Advantage
11Commitment to contribute to the academic and research standards of the host institutionsAdded Advantage

15iii.Project description (max. 5 pages) including research objectives, conceptual and methodological approach, ethical considerations, expected outputs, timeline and references. The project proposal should clearly specify how the project contributes to PANFUND’s overall goal. Any use of AI chatbots must be declared.Mandatory
