Role Overview
The Fleet Artisan is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing both electrical and mechanical components in vehicles within the company’s fleet. The role demands a high level of technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to work with modern diagnostic tools and systems. The Fleet Artisan ensures that all vehicles are in optimal working condition, minimizing downtime and supporting smooth logistics operations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
1. Vehicle Diagnostics and Troubleshooting
The Fleet Artisan will be responsible for identifying and resolving complex vehicle faults. This includes conducting in-depth diagnostics using advanced tools and software to pinpoint issues affecting electrical, electronic, and mechanical systems. The role requires strong analytical skills to interpret diagnostic data and implement effective solutions.
The candidate must demonstrate the ability to handle complex troubleshooting scenarios, ensuring that faults are resolved efficiently and accurately to prevent recurring issues.
2. Repair and Maintenance of Fleet Vehicles
A core responsibility of this role involves carrying out repairs on various components of fleet vehicles, including engines, transmissions, braking systems, and electrical wiring. The Fleet Artisan will perform both corrective and preventive maintenance to ensure vehicles remain in peak operational condition.
This includes working on a diverse range of heavy-duty and commercial vehicles, ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.
3. Use of Advanced Diagnostic Equipment
The role requires mastery in the use of modern diagnostic tools such as scanners and electrical testing equipment. The Fleet Artisan must be proficient in utilizing these technologies to assess vehicle performance, detect faults, and verify repairs.
A strong understanding of automotive electrical and electronic systems is essential, as the role involves working with increasingly complex vehicle technologies.
4. Fleet Inspection and Test Driving
The Fleet Artisan will conduct routine inspections and test drives to identify any noticeable issues that may not be immediately apparent during static diagnostics. Test driving is a critical part of ensuring that repairs have been successful and that vehicles are safe and reliable for operational use.
This responsibility also includes documenting findings and recommending further actions where necessary.
5. Customer and Stakeholder Communication
An important aspect of the role involves discussing vehicle issues, repair processes, and solutions with internal stakeholders. The Fleet Artisan must provide clear and accurate feedback regarding the condition of vehicles and the work carried out.
Strong communication skills are essential to ensure that all relevant parties are informed and that expectations are managed effectively.
6. Handling Specific Vehicle Brands and Equipment
The Fleet Artisan will work with a range of vehicle brands commonly used within the CCBA fleet. Experience in handling vehicles such as Mitsubishi, Isuzu, Scania, Mercedes Actros, and trailers is highly valuable.
Familiarity with these brands enables quicker diagnostics, efficient repairs, and better overall fleet performance.
7. Continuous Improvement and Problem Solving
The role requires a proactive approach to identifying recurring issues and implementing long-term solutions. The Fleet Artisan is expected to contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the fleet maintenance function.

Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (Automotive)
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a fleet maintenance workshop
- Experience working with Mercedes Actros and Scania vehicles will be an added advantage
