COUNTY CONSERVANCIES COORDINATOR – TURKANA COUNTY
Location: Kakuma Town, Turkana County
Job Type: Full-time
Reporting to: Field Operations Manager
Project Background
The Kidepo–Turkana landscape is one of East Africa’s most remarkable ecosystems, where wildlife, culture, and resilience intersect across the Kenya–Uganda border. Once a thriving wildlife haven, the region saw iconic species such as giraffes and oryx disappear by the 1970s due to overexploitation.
Today, despite significant conservation progress, the landscape faces growing challenges — including climate pressures, poverty, and insecurity.
With support from the European Union (EU), the Northern Rangelands Trust (NRT), together with partners in Kenya and Uganda, is implementing a transboundary initiative titled:
“Supporting New and Existing Community Conservancies, Adjacent Parks and Forests in the Kidepo–Turkana Landscape of Uganda and Kenya.”
The project aims to strengthen community-led conservation, restore ecosystems, and enhance coexistence across this shared landscape. NRT is implementing the project in partnership with the Uganda Conservation Foundation (UCF), Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), National Forestry Authority (NFA), and Wildlife Research and Training Institute (WRTI).
