The corporation is tasked with providing efficient and effective rail and inland waterway transport, operating both the Meter Gauge Railway (MGR) and the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR). The MGR runs from Mombasa to Malaba with branch lines to Nanyuki and Kisumu, while the SGR connects Mombasa to Naivasha.
