Job Responsibilities
As an Environmental Affairs Intern, you will work within the Operations and Risk Management Section of UNEP’s Corporate Services Division (CSD). Reporting to the Environmental Affairs Officer, you will contribute to the further development and administration of UNEP’s Internal Environmental Management System (EMS). Your key responsibilities will include:
Policy Development and Research
- Assist in policy development by reviewing and analyzing issues and trends, conducting evaluations, and performing other research activities and studies.
- Support the identification of achievements within UNEP’s EMS cycle for key environmental aspects, including climate/energy, water, waste, staff sensitization, and sustainable procurement.
Environmental Management System (EMS)
- Assist in implementing UNEP’s Environmental Management System by enforcing internal environmental policies and drafting or revising relevant guidance documents.
- Contribute to initiatives aimed at reducing travel emissions across the organization.
- Support the completion of UNEP’s 2024 annual environmental inventory.
Data Collection and Reporting
- Assist with survey initiatives by designing data collection tools, reviewing, analyzing, and interpreting survey responses, identifying problems or issues, and preparing comprehensive reports.
Meeting and Communication Support
- Schedule meetings, prepare agendas, compile presentations, manage logistics, and communicate with meeting members.
- Draft meeting minutes and reports to ensure accurate documentation of discussions and decisions.
Sustainability Initiatives
- Assist in managing sustainability aspects related to UN reform offices and support activities under the Business Operations Strategy (BOS).
- Update the “WeCollaborate” EMS webpage with new content and resources.
General Support
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor to support UNEP’s operations and goals.
About UNEP’s Corporate Services Division (CSD)
The Corporate Services Division (CSD) serves as the guardian of UNEP’s corporate interests, mitigating risks, and supporting the organization through management tools, plans, and capacity-building initiatives. The CSD ensures UNEP’s efficient and effective management in alignment with accountability requirements, rules, regulations, and core UN values.
The Operations and Risk Management Section, where the internship is based, focuses on operational excellence and effective risk management practices to uphold UNEP’s mission.
