This is an exciting opportunity for a self-driven and detail-oriented professional to play a key role in enhancing our governance, compliance, and risk management frameworks.


Position: Internal Auditor

Reports To: Board of Directors through the Board Audit & Risk Committee
Contract Type: Three-Year Renewable Contract (subject to performance)

Key Responsibilities

As the Internal Auditor, you will act as an independent and objective assurance professional. Your primary responsibility will be to provide accurate and timely evaluations of financial, operational, and corporate governance processes to the Board. Specific duties include:

  1. Risk Assessment and Mitigation:
    • Timely identification, evaluation, and reporting of financial risks to the Board.
  2. Data Analysis and Reporting:
    • Continuous collection and analysis of data on financial, operational, and corporate governance matters.
    • Submission of accurate reports to the Board as required.
  3. Financial Accuracy Verification:
    • Review and verify the accuracy of financial reports prepared by management.
    • Advise the Board on the accuracy and integrity of these reports.
  4. Transaction and System Audits:
    • Conduct regular verification of company transactions and systems.
    • Provide detailed reports on findings to the Board.
  5. Compliance Monitoring:
    • Ensure business operations adhere to company policies, procedures, applicable laws, and international auditing standards.
  6. Management Agency Oversight:
    • Monitor, document, and report on the implementation status of the Management Agency agreement.
  7. Operational Performance Reports:
    • Prepare and present timely reports on company operations, management agency performance, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  8. Process Review:
    • Review all financial, transactional, and operational processes before implementation.
    • Report on the potential impact and compliance to the Board.
  9. Access to Transactions:
    • Maintain unrestricted access to and approval of all company transactions, operations, and commitments.
  10. Board Resolutions Monitoring:
    • Audit and report on the status of implementation of Board Resolutions.
  11. Tea Auction and Broker Transactions:
    • Verify tea auction transactions and broker performance, reporting findings to the Board.
  12. Asset Safeguarding:
    • Conduct regular appraisals to assess risks to company assets.
    • Provide recommendations for risk mitigation.
  13. Tea Buying Centers Oversight:
    • Offer technical guidance on governance, operations, and projects at tea buying centers.
    • Submit regular reports on findings to the Board.
  14. General Responsibilities:
    • Undertake any other duties as assigned by the Board.

Required Qualifications and Competencies

To excel in this role, the ideal candidate should meet the following qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field from a recognized university in Kenya.
  • Professional Certification: CPA(K), ACCA, or CA. Membership in the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) is required.
  • Experience: Minimum of three (3) years in a similar role, with hands-on experience in computer-based auditing systems.
  • Compliance: Candidates must meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010.
  • Advantageous Qualifications: A Master’s Degree and membership in the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA).
