Job Objective
The Assistant Director, Donor Engagement and Communications, is responsible for developing and executing strategies to foster meaningful relationships with donors and stakeholders, while overseeing communication efforts to support fundraising activities. This role is vital in maximizing donor retention, enhancing engagement, and driving revenue to support KCA University’s goals.
Duties and Responsibilities
Donor Engagement Strategies
- Develop and implement comprehensive strategies to engage and retain individual donors, major donors, foundations, corporations, and other stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities to personalize donor interactions, creating memorable experiences that enhance donor satisfaction and loyalty.
- Establish donor recognition and stewardship programs, including personalized communications, acknowledgement letters, and donor appreciation events.
Donor Communication
- Oversee the creation and execution of donor communication plans, including email campaigns, newsletters, annual reports, and fundraising appeals.
- Craft compelling content to communicate the University’s achievements, impact, and funding needs effectively to donors and supporters.
- Collaborate with the communications team to ensure alignment in messaging, branding, and storytelling across all donor communication channels.
- Create and distribute tailored donor acknowledgements and impact reports.
Event-Based Fundraising
- Plan, coordinate, and execute fundraising events to generate revenue and promote KCA University’s mission.
- Develop creative event concepts, agendas, and themes, ensuring alignment with fundraising goals.
- Secure event sponsorships, donations, and in-kind support from corporate partners and other stakeholders.
- Manage event logistics, including venue selection, vendor contracts, budgeting, and promotional efforts.
Fundraising Appeals and Campaigns
- Lead the planning, execution, and evaluation of fundraising campaigns aimed at acquiring new donors, renewing existing donors, and increasing contributions.
- Develop targeted messaging and materials tailored to various donor segments.
- Track and analyze campaign performance, making adjustments to optimize outcomes.
Relationship Building and Stewardship
- Cultivate and steward relationships with key donors, volunteers, board members, and other stakeholders.
- Act as the primary point of contact for donor inquiries and feedback, ensuring excellent customer service and responsiveness.
- Facilitate donor engagement opportunities such as site visits, events, and program updates in collaboration with leadership and program staff.
Data Management and Insights
- Oversee the maintenance of a donor database, ensuring accurate tracking of donor interactions, preferences, and giving history.
- Ensure data integrity, accuracy, and compliance with privacy regulations.
- Leverage donor data to inform segmentation, targeting, and personalized communication strategies.
Performance Analysis and Reporting
- Prepare regular reports on donor engagement metrics, fundraising performance, and trends.
- Use data-driven insights to evaluate the effectiveness of donor engagement and communication efforts, identifying areas for improvement.
Leadership and Team Development
- Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in donor engagement, fundraising, and nonprofit communications.
- Share knowledge with team members and support professional development initiatives to enhance team capacity.
Other Duties
- Represent KCA University at industry events, conferences, and networking functions to build visibility and partnerships.
- Perform other duties as assigned to advance the University’s mission.
Qualifications and Experience
- Master’s degree from an accredited/recognized university.
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, communications, marketing, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- At least five (5) years of experience in fundraising, donor relations, or communications, with a focus on donor engagement and stewardship.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong understanding of donor-centric fundraising principles and best practices.
- Excellent communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to inspire donors and stakeholders.
- Proficiency in donor database management, CRM systems, and data analysis.
- Proven ability to build and nurture meaningful relationships with donors, sponsors, and partners.
- Project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of fundraising tools and technologies, including online fundraising platforms.
- Demonstrated commitment to making a positive impact in the community.
