Position: Systems Administrator

Location: Nairobi, Kenya
As a Systems Administrator, you will be responsible for managing and optimizing the hospital’s IT infrastructure to support its technology needs.
This includes ensuring that all core systems, databases, and networks are running smoothly, securely, and efficiently. You will work to support the operational goals of the hospital and ensure the high availability of mission-critical healthcare applications and services.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Systems and Infrastructure Management:
- Design, deploy, and manage IT infrastructure (both on-premises and cloud-based solutions).
- Administer and optimize enterprise applications such as the Hospital Information System (HIS) and database platforms (Oracle, UNIX, VMware, Hyper-V).
- Ensure uptime, performance, and security of critical systems, including servers, databases, and networks.
- System Optimization and Maintenance:
- Proactively monitor system performance, conduct performance tuning, and perform capacity planning for reliable and scalable systems.
- Oversee backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity for all critical IT systems.
- Manage system upgrades, patches, and migrations with minimal disruption to hospital operations.
- Database Administration:
- Ensure optimal performance, data integrity, and availability of hospital databases.
- Implement and manage database backup and recovery strategies.
- Perform database performance optimization tasks, including indexing and query optimization.
- IT Security and Compliance:
- Develop and enforce IT security policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Ensure compliance with international standards and regulations such as GDPR, HIPAA, and ISO 27001.
- Conduct security audits and penetration testing to identify and address vulnerabilities.
- Project Implementation and Leadership:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver IT solutions that enhance operational efficiency.
- Provide mentorship to junior IT staff and foster knowledge sharing.
- Support and Troubleshooting:
- Act as the escalation point for complex technical issues.
- Perform root cause analysis and implement long-term solutions.
- Maintain thorough documentation of IT systems, configurations, and procedures.
- System Administration:
- Analyze, document, and propose solutions for hospital-wide business areas.
- Manage, support, and optimize the hospital’s core business systems, including operating systems and databases.
- Provide technical assistance, analysis, and solutions for issues reported or escalated from the service desk.
- Closing of Business (COB) Procedures:
- Complete daily tasks related to COB, including backup/restoration procedures and reporting.
- Support live system operation and ensure no service disruptions.
- General Responsibilities:
- Participate in IT projects and the implementation of new solutions.
- Support business operations through smooth management of hospital information systems.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Professional Certifications in IT infrastructure or systems administration (e.g., MCSE, RHCSA, VMware Certified Professional).
- Network Certifications such as CCNA or CCNP will be an added advantage.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in IT systems administration, with at least 2 years in a senior or supervisory role.
- Proven experience in managing large-scale IT infrastructures, including servers, storage, and networks.
- Demonstrated experience with healthcare IT systems is highly desirable.
- Experience with UNIX/Linux/Windows Server, VMware, Hyper-V, AWS, Azure, and Oracle databases.

- Technical Skills: Advanced knowledge of operating systems (Windows, Linux, UNIX), enterprise applications, cloud environments, database management, network protocols, and IT security.
