Job Overview
MEDS is seeking a highly skilled Accountant to oversee tax accounting, ensure compliance with KRA regulations, and manage financial aspects of donor-funded projects. The ideal candidate will play a key role in reconciling tax accounts, processing payments, and preparing financial reports in line with donor and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Reconcile tax sub-ledgers, including PAYE, VAT, and Withholding Tax, with the general ledger to ensure accuracy and compliance with KRA regulations.
- Process tax declarations and payments promptly to avoid fines and penalties.
- Prepare and submit VAT and Withholding Tax sub-ledgers, revenue and expenditure reports, and VAT returns in compliance with existing laws.
- Generate periodic tax lead schedules, including VAT 3 Schedule and IT2 Schedule, to facilitate internal and external financial audits.
- Assess and ensure organizational compliance with taxation laws and provide training on regulatory changes.
- Prepare and analyze project budgets and financial reports on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis to monitor project performance in line with donor requirements.
- Conduct import cost analyses by calculating all pre-shipment and post-shipment cost elements to assess the viability of imports and justify pricing.
- Process payments for temporary staff by accurately tabulating and posting amounts to the relevant ledgers to ensure timely disbursement.
- Implement audit resolutions related to taxes, project reports, and other financial matters.
- Continuously review the organization’s compliance with taxation laws and recommend necessary changes.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or a business-related field.
- Certified Public Accountant (Finalist) or equivalent.
- Registration with ICPAK is an added advantage.
- Minimum of five years of experience, including at least two years in accounting within a tax environment.
- Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
- Familiarity with Generally Accepted Government Audit Standards (GAGAS) and the Code of Federal Regulations.
- Excellent analytical, communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
- High attention to detail and critical thinking ability.
