Job Title: Senior Agribusiness Relationship Officer (Multiple Branches)

Location: Client Solutions Department – Nairobi

Purpose of the Role

The Senior Agribusiness Relationship Officer is responsible for achieving the bank’s agribusiness portfolio growth by supporting Relationship Managers, Branch Managers, and other business teams. This involves preparing high-quality agribusiness credit proposals for both existing and new clients, enhancing the quality and turnaround time for credit application approvals.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Business Acquisition and Growth:
    • Source and acquire agribusiness clients in the assigned area of posting.
    • Deepen client wallet and drive cross-selling of products and services.
    • Ensure exceptional customer experience for managed agribusiness portfolios.
    • Maintain high-quality assets within the managed portfolio.
  • Credit Analysis and Assessment:
    • Conduct comprehensive analysis for new and existing clients, covering qualitative and quantitative aspects of the business, including strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.
    • Evaluate, analyze, and interpret financial information to undertake credit assessments in line with credit policy guidelines and risk acceptance criteria.
    • Ensure all credit proposals meet relevant policy requirements, risk acceptance criteria, and credit risk appetite guidelines.
    • Identify and evaluate risks associated with individual transactions, products, and borrowers, recommending appropriate risk mitigants.
    • Ensure optimal pricing of agribusiness credit proposals using the Risk-Based Pricing Model.
  • Credit Risk Management:
    • Independently and accurately prepare the Credit Risk Rating (CRR) of borrowers.
    • Ensure all credit proposals are properly rated using the Environmental & Social Risk Management Policy, standards, and models.
    • Monitor and follow up on credit approvals and facilitate timely renewal of customer facilities.
    • Evaluate borrower compliance with agreed facility covenants during annual reviews, highlighting financial covenants as part of portfolio management.
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Training:
    • Collaborate with Relationship Managers (RMs), Branch Managers (BMs), and Relationship Officers (ROs) to ensure proper structuring and documentation of credit proposals.
    • Provide training to RMs, BMs, and ROs on agribusiness credit analysis processes, either individually or in groups.
    • Support the Business Performance and Planning (BPP) segments in meeting targets by processing credit applications promptly and offering credit analysis support.
  • Team Collaboration and Client Engagement:
    • Participate in Credit Analysts meetings to discuss facility structuring, supporting documentation, and general business support.
    • Conduct joint client visits with RMs to originate high-quality agribusiness credit applications and facilitate timely approvals.
    • Maintain strong relationships with Analysts and RMs through high levels of service delivery.

Person Specification

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Business Studies, Management, Commerce (Finance or Accounting Option), or an equivalent field.
  • At least 2 years of banking experience in relationship management and client acquisition.
  • At least 2 years of banking experience in a lending or credit risk appraisal environment, or equivalent experience to provide a strong understanding of credit risk policies, product policies, and CBK prudential guidelines.
  • A good understanding of the local competitive market and industry trends.
