Disqualification Criteria

To maintain the highest standards of integrity and accountability, the following disqualification criteria apply to all applicants for the positions of Chairperson and Member of the National Police Service Commission:

  • Political Office: Applicants who are, or have been within the previous five years, Members of Parliament or County Assemblies are disqualified. (Note: This criterion ceases to apply to a person after one general election for Parliament has been held since they ceased to hold such office.)
  • State Officers: Any serving State Officer is ineligible.
  • Political Party Affiliation: Individuals who are members of a governing body of a political party will not be considered.
  • Bankruptcy: Applicants who are undischarged bankrupts are disqualified.
  • Criminal Convictions: Any individual who has been convicted of a felony is ineligible.
  • Removal from Office: Those removed from office for contravening the provisions of the Constitution or any other law are disqualified.
