Overview of the Role
The Deputy Director, Linkages & Partnerships, will play a crucial role in driving MKU’s strategic initiatives by identifying, engaging, and maintaining value-adding partnerships that support the University’s mission and vision. This includes developing collaborations with local and international institutions, including public and private sectors, universities, and non-governmental organizations.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating all partnership activities, ensuring effective engagement, follow-up, and appraisals of these collaborations. The position demands a strategic thinker with a strong background in project-driven partnerships, entrepreneurship, innovation promotion, and fundraising.
This role requires excellent communication and leadership skills, along with the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
Detailed Job Description
1. Strategic Partnership Development
- Identify and Engage Value-Adding Partners
In consultation with various process owners, identify and engage strategic partners that align with MKU’s mission and vision. This includes collaborations with local and international institutions, including public and private sectors, universities, research organizations, and NGOs. - Coordinate Engagement of New Partners
Drive the engagement process for new partners by initiating and facilitating discussions, drafting Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), and formalizing agreements to create mutual value for MKU and its partners. - Foster Entrepreneurship and Innovation Promotion
Lead initiatives to promote entrepreneurship and innovation by collaborating with the MKU Foundation and Graduate Enterprise Academy, ensuring strategic alignment with the University’s objectives.
2. Partnership Management and Appraisals
- Oversee Partnership Appraisals
Continuously monitor and evaluate ongoing partnerships to ensure they meet the strategic objectives of MKU. Conduct periodic reviews and appraisals, providing reports to the Director, Linkages, Partnerships, and Collaborations. - Maintain and Update Partnerships Database
Prepare and maintain an up-to-date database of all partnerships, including key stakeholders, contact details, partnership objectives, and progress reports. Ensure accurate record-keeping and data management for strategic decision-making. - Prompt Reporting and Communication
Report promptly on the progress of all partnerships, ensuring transparency and effective communication with stakeholders, including the Principal, Corporate Services, Communication & Alumni Relations, and the Director of Linkages, Partnerships, and Collaborations.
3. Fundraising and Resource Mobilization
- Grant Proposals Writing and Fundraising
Lead the development of grant proposals and fundraising strategies to secure financial support for MKU’s programs and initiatives. Collaborate with internal teams to identify funding needs and align them with potential funding opportunities. - Build Strategic Networks
Establish and maintain strategic networks with funding agencies, development partners, and other stakeholders to enhance resource mobilization efforts.
4. Stakeholder Engagement and Communication
- Build and Maintain Strategic Relationships
Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including faculty, administrative staff, alumni, partners, and funding agencies. - Enhance Visibility and Brand Image
Enhance the visibility and brand image of MKU through strategic partnerships and collaborations that align with the University’s mission and vision. - Effective Communication and Reporting
Communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels, providing updates, reports, and strategic insights on partnership progress and outcomes.
5. Leadership and Team Development
- Provide Strategic Leadership
Provide strategic leadership and direction to the Linkages & Partnerships team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and accountability. - Capacity Building and Staff Development
Lead capacity-building initiatives for staff involved in partnership management, ensuring they possess the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively engage with stakeholders. - Mentorship and Coaching
Mentor and coach team members, fostering professional growth and development.
6. Administrative and Support Duties
- Policy Development and Implementation
Contribute to the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to linkages, partnerships, and collaborations, ensuring alignment with MKU’s strategic objectives. - Budgeting and Financial Oversight
Oversee the budgeting process for partnership activities, ensuring efficient allocation and utilization of resources. - Other Duties as Assigned
Undertake any other tasks that may be assigned by the Principal, Corporate Services, Communication & Alumni Relations, or the Director, Linkages, Partnerships, and Collaborations on a need-to-need basis.
