The Tana River County Public Service Board, on behalf of the County Government of Tana River, is seeking competent and qualified individuals to fill multiple vacant positions in the healthcare sector. This recruitment is conducted pursuant to Section 59(1) and 66 of the County Governments Act 2012, as read together with Article 235 of the Constitution of Kenya 2010.

1. Medical Officer, J/G ‘M’ (3 Posts)

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Diagnosing, caring for, and treating diseases.
  • Performing medical and surgical procedures.
  • Preparing for and responding to emergencies and disasters.
  • Participating in the management of medicine, medical instruments, and equipment.
  • Providing health education to patients and the community.
  • Maintaining medical records, health information, and data.
  • Coaching medical students, nursing students, and clinical officer interns.
  • Preparing requisite documents for registration.
  • Performing any other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

2. Registered Clinical Officer II, J/G ‘J’ (8 Posts)

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Taking patient history, examining, diagnosing, and treating common ailments at outpatient or inpatient health facilities.
  • Implementing community health care activities in collaboration with other health workers.
  • Guiding and counseling patients, clients, and staff on health issues.
  • Sensitizing patients and clients on preventive and promotive health.
  • Referring patients and clients to appropriate health facilities.
  • Providing clinical outreach and school health services.
  • Carrying out minor surgical procedures according to training and skills.
  • Collating and compiling clinical data.
  • Assessing, preparing, and presenting medico-legal reports.

3. Registered Nurse III, J/G ‘H’ (20 Posts)

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assessing, planning, implementing nursing interventions, and evaluating patient outcomes.
  • Providing healthcare services including integrated management of childhood illnesses (IMCI), immunization, PMTCT, antenatal care, and delivery.
  • Offering health education and counseling to patients and clients.
  • Facilitating patient admissions and initiating discharge plans.
  • Maintaining records on patient health conditions and care.
  • Ensuring a tidy and safe clinical environment.
  • Collecting and compiling health data.
  • Performing any other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assessing patients and identifying healthcare needs.
  • Planning and implementing nursing care interventions.
  • Providing healthcare services including immunization, antenatal care, and delivery.
  • Referring patients and clients appropriately.
  • Evaluating healthcare outcomes and preparing individualized reports.
  • Making discharge plans for patients.
  • Conducting assessments of school health needs.
  • Planning, implementing interventions, and preparing periodic reports.
  • Maintaining records of patient health conditions and care.
  • Ensuring a safe clinical environment and custody of in-patient belongings.
  • Conducting home visits and following up with discharged patients.

5. Nutrition and Dietetics Technologist III, J/G ‘H’ (2 Posts)

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implementing nutrition assessments.
  • Collecting and compiling nutrition data.
  • Providing nutrition health education and demonstrations.
  • Counseling patients with specific nutritional needs.
  • Monitoring the preparation of therapeutic feeding programs.
  • Promoting maternal, infant, and young children feeding programs.
  • Providing micronutrient supplementation.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Referring health cases to relevant health facilities.
  • Conducting immunization activities.
  • Identifying environmental health issues at the community level.
  • Organizing community health days to educate on common public health issues.
  • Collecting and maintaining records of services rendered.
  • Implementing vector, vermin, and rodent control measures.
  • Performing any other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.

7. Orthopedic Trauma Technologist III, J/G ‘H’ (1 Post)

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manipulating and reducing fractures and dislocations.
  • Fixing and removing casts, bandages, and tractions.
  • Correcting Congenital Talipes Equino-Varus (C.T.E.V).
  • Counseling patients on orthopedic trauma issues.
  • Cleaning and treating simple wounds from orthopedic trauma.
  • Documenting orthopedic and trauma cases.
  • Assessing and referring patients with musculoskeletal conditions.
  • Performing any other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Mobilizing and sensitizing communities on environmental health matters.

  • Organizing community health days for public health education.
  • Collecting and maintaining records of services rendered.
  • Performing any other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.

9. Health Records and Information Technologist III, J/G ‘H’ (1 Post)

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Receiving and documenting patients at hospital reception.
  • Registering and booking appointments for patients.
  • Storing and retrieving medical records.
  • Preparing clinics and updating bed bureaus.
  • Capturing health data from service points.
  • Ensuring record safety and confidentiality.
  • Assigning codes to diseases and surgical procedures according to international standards.
  • Performing any other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.
