Job Opportunity: Project Communications Coordinator

CIFOR-ICRAF is seeking a highly skilled and dynamic Project Communications Coordinator to join our multicultural team. This role is integral in driving impactful communication strategies and ensuring that our projects gain visibility and engagement from key stakeholders.

In this role, you will contribute to projects addressing global challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, forest restoration, soil health, wildlife conservation, and community engagement. You will manage communication efforts across various projects, ensuring tailored strategies for different audiences and geographical locations. Duties and Responsibilities

1. Objectives of the Assignment

The Project Communications Coordinator will develop and implement project-specific communication activities aligned with CIFOR-ICRAF’s mission and organizational priorities. This role will enhance the visibility and impact of projects by ensuring effective storytelling, strategic messaging, and robust stakeholder engagement.

The coordinator will oversee communication efforts through digital media, publications, stakeholder engagement, and advocacy campaigns. They will also play a key role in crisis communication and reputation management, ensuring timely responses and transparency.

2. Key Tasks and Deliverables

The consultant will undertake the following key tasks:

Strategic Communication Planning:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies for assigned projects, including key messages, target audiences, channels, budgets, and performance metrics.
  • Align communication efforts with CIFOR-ICRAF branding and policies.
  • Monitor and evaluate communication strategies to ensure effectiveness and impact.

Content Creation and Digital Media Management:

  • Plan, develop, and produce high-quality multimedia content, including:
    • Publications
    • Articles and blogs
    • Web content
    • Social media posts
    • Videos and photography
    • Infographics
    • Media releases
    • Newsletters
    • Presentations
    • Event-related materials
  • Ensure that all content is engaging, consistent, and aligned with project goals.
  • Maintain and update project websites and digital platforms to ensure visibility.
  • Develop communication toolkits for project teams and external stakeholders.

Media Relations and Public Engagement:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, media houses, and influencers to promote CIFOR-ICRAF’s work.
  • Coordinate press conferences, media briefings, and interviews to enhance project visibility.
  • Develop and disseminate high-quality press releases and media briefs.
  • Monitor media coverage and generate reports on impact and outreach.

Stakeholder Communication and Engagement:

  • Develop and disseminate stakeholder engagement materials, including fact sheets, brochures, and presentations.
  • Ensure effective communication with partners, donors, government agencies, and community stakeholders.
  • Plan and execute project-related events, workshops, and campaigns.
  • Support CIFOR-ICRAF participation in international forums, meetings, and conferences.
  • Ensure project visibility during international observances (e.g., UN days).

Performance Monitoring and Reporting:

  • Track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) for all communication activities.
  • Prepare impact reports for management and donors.
  • Ensure compliance with donor visibility requirements and branding guidelines.
  • Collect and document success stories and testimonials to showcase project impact.

Crisis Communication and Risk Management:

  • Develop contingency communication plans for crisis situations.
  • Prepare statements and responses for potential reputational risks.
  • Ensure transparent and timely communication during crisis events.

Collaboration with Internal Teams:

  • Work closely with the COE (Communications, Outreach, and Engagement) department to ensure alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Coordinate communication activities across teams and ensure knowledge sharing among project staff.
  • Utilize the resources of the COE communications team and external consultants for content production.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Strong background in strategic communications, storytelling, and media engagement.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Proficiency in at least one additional language among Bahasa Indonesian, French, Portuguese, or Spanish is an added advantage.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in communications planning, messaging, and monitoring.
  • At least three (3) years of hands-on experience in content creation, journalism, video production, or digital media management.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong understanding of different communication channels and digital media trends.
  • Proven experience in coordinating content contributions within global teams.
  • Knowledge and background in environment, climate, forestry, or science communications are highly desirable.
