Headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, with a regional office in Dakar, Senegal, APHRC is dedicated to driving change through strong African research leadership and evidence-informed decision-making (EIDM).
As part of its Research and Related Capacity Strengthening (RRCS) Division, APHRC is offering 2025 research internship opportunities across various projects for a period of 3–6 months starting April 2025. These internships provide hands-on experience in research, data analysis, policy engagement, and project implementation.
Available Internship Positions
1. Evaluating the Feasibility and Effectiveness of a Gender-Transformative Parenting Intervention
- Assist in research on adolescent parenting in Kakamega County.
- Conduct data collection and analysis.
- Support field activities and stakeholder engagements.
2. Child Stimulation and Brain Function Study
- Work with neuroimaging techniques and behavioral measures.
- Assist in data analysis and interpretation.
3. Early Childhood Development (ECD) Data Visualization System
- Support development of an ECD data system for Nairobi, Homa Bay, and Isiolo counties.
- Work with data visualization and reporting tools.
4. Teacher Professional Development (TPD) Practicum/Sex Ed Pipeline
- Engage in research on teacher training and sexuality education.
- Support data collection and training modules.
5. Kenya National Survey on Gender Norms, Attitudes, and Well-being of Young Adolescents
- Participate in nationwide data collection and analysis.
- Support survey implementation and reporting.
6. Health and Well-being of Very Young Adolescents in Kenya
- Conduct fieldwork and support research on adolescent health.
7. General Administration (Legal and Compliance)
- Support legal and compliance research.
- Assist in policy documentation and regulatory adherence.
8. Partnership for Education of Health Professionals (PEP) Program
- Provide administrative and research support for health education initiatives.
9. African Research Excellence Fund (AREF) Fellowship Program
- Assist in coordinating research fellowship programs.

- Support research and program implementation.

Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a work plan with an assigned supervisor.
- Participate in research, data collection, and analysis.
- Contribute to policy engagement and strategic planning.
- Present research findings at APHRC’s Brown Bag Presentations (BBPs).
- Submit a final internship report and feedback form.
- Participate in follow-up evaluation surveys.
Minimum Qualifications
- Completed a bachelor’s degree and/or pursuing/completed a master’s degree in a relevant field.
- Strong analytical skills (quantitative and qualitative).
- Open to nationals of African countries.
- Hybrid internship with physical availability when required.
