Join Our Team at Save the Children: Make a Difference in Children’s Lives

Save the Children has been providing support to children in Kenya through our development and humanitarian programmes since 1950. We work with communities, local partners, and the government to design and deliver programmes that meet the needs of the most deprived children. Our mission is to create a world where every child survives, learns, and is protected.

The Situation for Children in Kenya

More than half of Kenya’s population consists of children. While significant progress has been made, high levels of inequality persist, preventing millions of children from surviving and reaching their full potential.

  • One in four children under the age of five are stunted, with the highest rates of stunting found in rural and remote areas.
  • Neonatal mortality rates remain high, leading to a considerable number of children dying within their first month of life.
  • Many children in rural areas lack access to quality education, with limited early education opportunities that are critical to their development.
  • One in three girls experience sexual violence before their 18th birthday.
  • Kenya is home to a growing youth population, with 78% of the population below the age of 35. Many young people struggle to secure sustainable employment.
  • Kenya hosts almost 500,000 refugees from neighboring countries, more than half of whom are children.
  • Climate change has intensified challenges, with extreme drought conditions affecting livelihoods and making children even more vulnerable.
