Role Overview
The Partnerships Officer (Private Sector & Foundations) will play a critical role in expanding and managing WFP’s engagement with private sector partners and global foundations. The role will support WFP’s efforts to secure funding, enhance program impact, and build strong relationships with businesses and philanthropic organizations.
This position focuses on two key areas:
- Foundations Portfolio Management – Strengthening WFP’s collaboration with foundations like Novo Nordisk Foundation (NNF) to scale up Homegrown School Feeding (HGSF) and Smallholder Farmer support programs in Rwanda and Uganda.
- Private Sector Engagement – Identifying and developing partnerships with corporations, entrepreneurs, and private entities to enhance WFP’s fundraising, innovation, and resource mobilization efforts in Eastern Africa.
Key Responsibilities
1. Foundations Partnerships Support & Coordination
- Oversee and ensure the effective implementation of the Novo Nordisk Foundation (NNF) Project.
- Assist Country Offices (COs) in tracking progress, submitting timely reports, and maintaining clear communication with donors and stakeholders.
- Support proposal development for the second phase of the NNF collaboration, working closely with internal teams.
- Develop a joint communications and advocacy plan in collaboration with program teams and partners.
- Provide technical oversight and strategic inputs to Country Office project focal points to ensure alignment with WFP standards.
- Coordinate financial reporting with the Budget and Programming Unit and Finance team to meet donor requirements.
2. Private Sector Partnerships Development
- Work with the Communications and Advocacy (CAM) unit to create engaging video content and articles showcasing the impact of HGSF in Rwanda and Uganda.
- Lead the identification, development, and management of regional and multi-country private sector partnerships, including Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs).
- Develop and distribute quarterly Private Sector updates to enhance visibility and engagement.
- Support efforts to attract new corporate donors by crafting compelling value propositions and partnership proposals.
- Act as the partnership focal point, ensuring alignment between program teams and private sector stakeholders.
- Explore innovative fundraising opportunities and advocacy strategies to boost WFP’s private sector engagement.
- Support other private sector initiatives and engagement efforts as needed.
Qualifications & Experience
Education
- A university degree in International Affairs, Economics, Public Health, Nutrition, Food Technology, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Social Sciences, or a related field.
Experience
- At least three (3) years of professional experience in humanitarian and development work, partnerships, private sector engagement, and project management.
- Strong project management and partnership development skills.
- Experience in proposal writing, monitoring & evaluation, and reporting.
- Proven ability to engage with private sector stakeholders and innovation-driven partnerships.
- Knowledge of humanitarian and development operations in Eastern Africa.
Skills & Competencies
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate programs and develop strategic improvements.
- Ability to work in cross-cultural environments with diverse teams.
- Strong networking and relationship-building skills with external partners.
- Proficiency in data analysis, reporting, and presentation tools.
Languages
- Fluency in English (spoken and written) is required.
