The National Police Service Commission (NPSC) is an independent constitutional body mandated to oversee the human resource functions of the National Police Service (NPS). Established under Article 246 of the Constitution of Kenya, the Commission plays a vital role in ensuring professionalism, discipline, and efficiency within the police service.
Mandate and Functions
NPSC is responsible for key human resource functions in the police service, including:
- Recruitment and Appointment – The Commission oversees the hiring and appointment of police officers at various ranks to ensure fairness, transparency, and merit-based selection.
- Promotion and Transfers – NPSC handles promotions and transfers within the National Police Service to enhance efficiency and career progression.
- Disciplinary Control – The Commission has the authority to exercise disciplinary measures, ensuring accountability and integrity among police officers.
- Policy Formulation – NPSC develops policies and guidelines for effective management of police personnel, aligning them with national and international best practices.
- Welfare and Terms of Service – The Commission advocates for fair remuneration, benefits, and working conditions for police officers, enhancing their morale and commitment to duty.

Shortlisted Candidates
The Selection Panel for Nominees for Appointment as Chairperson and Members of the National Police Service Commission has officially released the list of shortlisted candidates for interviews. This selection process is conducted in accordance with Article 246(2)(a) of the Constitution and Section 5 of the National Police Service Commission Act 2011. The purpose of these appointments is to ensure that the National Police Service Commission is led by competent and qualified individuals dedicated to overseeing and reforming Kenya’s police service.
The panel had earlier invited applications from suitably qualified candidates, and after rigorous screening, a final list of shortlisted candidates was published on February 20, 2025. The full list of applicants can be accessed on the Public Service Commission website: www.publicservice.go.ke.
The interviews are scheduled to be held at the Public Service Commission, Harambee Avenue, Nairobi, and shortlisted candidates must arrive at least 20 minutes before their allotted time slot.
