About the Internship
The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) is seeking two highly motivated and dedicated interns to support the Fact-Finding Mission for the Sudan. This internship offers an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about human rights to gain hands-on experience in research, documentation, and advocacy efforts related to human rights violations. Based in Nairobi, the selected candidates will work closely with human rights experts in a fast-paced and impactful environment.
The Fact-Finding Mission for the Sudan is tasked with investigating and analyzing human rights violations and abuses in Sudan. Interns will contribute to this important mandate by assisting in research, analysis, and documentation of cases relevant to international human rights law.
Internship Positions
1. Human Rights Research Intern
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct research and analysis on human rights violations and abuses in Sudan, utilizing open-source intelligence and verified reports.
- Assist in drafting reports, policy briefs, and case summaries related to human rights concerns.
- Support the team in identifying patterns and trends of human rights abuses through data collection and analysis.
- Assist in preparing briefings, presentations, and background materials for internal and external stakeholders.
- Monitor and analyze regional and international developments related to Sudan and human rights issues.
- Participate in internal meetings, workshops, and training sessions on human rights monitoring.
- Support the verification of information obtained from various sources, including victims, witnesses, and organizations.
2. Human Rights Documentation and Outreach Intern
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the collection and organization of evidence related to human rights violations in Sudan.
- Support the documentation team in archiving and maintaining case files, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
- Contribute to the preparation of fact-finding reports and recommendations based on gathered evidence.
- Assist in liaising with victims, witnesses, and partner organizations to gather first-hand accounts and testimonies.
- Help coordinate outreach initiatives to engage civil society organizations, activists, and other stakeholders.
- Draft summaries, statements, and reports for dissemination to partners and advocacy networks.
- Support social media and communication efforts related to the work of the Fact-Finding Mission.
