Main Purpose of the Job
The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering and ensuring high-quality obstetrics and gynaecology services across the Avenue Healthcare group. This includes providing specialized care to patients, supporting fellow doctors with expert consultation, and overseeing related departmental operations—all in alignment with company policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
The Resident Obstetrician-Gynaecologist will carry out the following roles and responsibilities:
Clinical Care and Patient Management
- Attend to walk-in and referred obstetrics and gynaecology patients in both outpatient and inpatient settings.
- Run gynaecology and antenatal clinics, ensuring thorough patient reviews and timely interventions.
- Provide superior diagnostic, preventative, and interventional care in line with industry standards.
- Ensure accurate documentation of medical history, physical examinations, lab investigations, and treatment plans.
- Counsel patients and their families on treatment options, compliance, and participation in medical decisions.
- Conduct family conferences and manage sensitive communications with empathy and professionalism.
Surgical and Procedural Duties
- Perform obstetric and gynaecological procedures and surgeries, ensuring safety and excellence in execution.
- Participate in patient resuscitation as needed, providing timely and effective emergency interventions.
Departmental Leadership
- Offer consultancy services to doctors across all Avenue Healthcare facilities.
- Oversee the functioning of the obstetrics and gynaecology department, including mentorship and knowledge sharing.
- Facilitate Continuous Medical Education (CME) sessions for medical staff and students, building internal capacity for superior care.
Quality Assurance and Compliance
- Participate in morbidity and mortality meetings to assess clinical outcomes and inform service improvement.
- Engage in incident reporting, root cause analysis, and contribute to the facility’s Quality Improvement Plan.
- Maintain strict adherence to Avenue Healthcare’s governance, privacy, and confidentiality policies.
Operational Efficiency
- Ensure timely patient admissions, consent collection, and discharges.
- Monitor and guide investigations, ensuring patients and their families are well-informed about their medical journey.
- Support billing processes by ensuring all drugs and services are accurately billed.
- Coordinate with the credit control department to manage patient accounts and monitor expenditure limits.
Financial and Strategic Objectives
- Work with management to ensure the facility remains financially viable and continues to grow.
- Increase diversity and quality of services.
- Participate in marketing efforts and service introductions.
- Ensure necessary pre-authorizations are in place.
- Drive initiatives to enhance patient satisfaction by promoting effective communication and service quality.
General Responsibilities
- Ensure consistent learning and upskilling through workshops, courses, and hands-on mentorship.
- Exhibit a positive attitude, strong teamwork, and collaborative engagement across departments.
- Adhere to all human resource, financial, and operational policies as outlined in the Avenue Healthcare HRMIS system.
- Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the supervisor, in alignment with the job’s scope.
Person Specification

- Advanced surgical proficiency, ensuring patient safety and optimal outcomes.

- Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Dedication to continuous professional development and learning.
- Updated certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), or Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS).
- A valid license from the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board (KMPDB).
