The Centre for the Study of Adolescence (CSA), in collaboration with Rise Up, invites applications from qualified individuals or teams for the position of Kenya Systems-Change Advocacy Consultant. This is a consultancy opportunity for professionals with extensive experience in gender-focused systems-change advocacy, curriculum development, training facilitation, and technical assistance to social justice leaders in Kenya.
CSA is a reputable non-profit organization established in 1988, with a mission to promote adolescent and youth health and development through programming, advocacy, research, and capacity building. Rise Up, a global initiative, partners with local leaders to promote gender equity and justice in education, health, and economic opportunities.
This year, Rise Up is launching the Leadership and Advocacy Accelerator for 25 nonprofit leaders in Kenya. The program will include four virtual sessions followed by a 6-day in-person workshop in July 2025. The Kenya Systems-Change Advocacy Consultant will play a pivotal role in adapting and delivering this hybrid training, providing follow-up coaching and technical assistance to participants throughout the project lifecycle.
Below is the detailed job description and scope of work for this consultancy opportunity.
Position: Kenya Systems-Change Advocacy Consultant
Scope of Work
1. Training Preparation
- Conduct a comprehensive review of Rise Up’s training curriculum to tailor it for the Kenyan context using current local case studies.
- Adapt both virtual and in-person core curriculum modules to suit the hybrid format (four virtual sessions + six-day in-person training).
- Develop session designs, PowerPoint presentations, reading and audio-visual materials aligned with Kenyan social and political realities.
- Design and prepare training resources including handouts, worksheets, and evaluation tools.
- Collaborate with Rise Up staff to review and finalize the agenda and curriculum by May 15, 2025.
2. Training and Facilitation
- Facilitate high-quality, participant-centered training for 25 nonprofit leaders from Nairobi, Kiambu, Kajiado, and Machakos counties.
- Identify and coordinate with local experts and panelists for specialized sessions.
- Conduct one-on-one meetings with participants during residential training, offering tailored feedback on advocacy project development.
- Actively participate in daily debrief sessions and adjust training based on feedback.
- Provide in-person coaching and ensure training materials are uploaded to Google Classroom.
- Implement Rise Up’s Girl Protection Policy during all training activities.
3. Post-Training Follow-Up and Coaching
- Submit final training designs and documentation by July 31, 2025.
- Engage in debrief meetings with Rise Up staff and other trainers to assess participant feedback and improve future training delivery.
- Offer each participant at least one 30-minute virtual coaching session before proposal submission.
- Review participants’ draft proposals and provide constructive feedback based on Rise Up’s evaluation criteria.
- Suggest areas for further technical support based on proposal quality and implementation challenges.
4. Technical Assistance to Grantees
- Support up to eight grantees through quarterly technical assistance calls (30–60 minutes) from February 2026 to April 2026.
- Assist grantees with problem-solving during project implementation, share relevant resources, and connect them with stakeholders.
- Document and report technical assistance activities monthly.
- Help validate interim and final grantee reports with feedback and summaries for donor reporting purposes.
5. Financial and Administrative Responsibilities
- Submit invoices and reconcile travel costs in a timely manner.
- Maintain regular communication with the Rise Up resource team.
- Proactively raise any concerns related to finances or schedule.

Required Qualifications
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Minimum of seven years’ experience training diverse groups in gender equity and policy advocacy in Kenya.
- Profound knowledge of advocacy, political systems, and relevant county and national laws affecting gender equity.
- Strong understanding of intersectional gender equity in underserved and marginalized communities, especially within Nairobi, Kiambu, Kajiado, and Machakos.
- Proven skills in curriculum development, training facilitation, and the use of participant-centered methodologies.
- Expertise in proposal development, monitoring, and evaluation.
- Excellent communication, presentation, time management, and cultural sensitivity.
- Experience working with marginalized populations including LGBTQIA+ communities.
- Proficiency in digital tools such as MS Office, PowerPoint/Canva, Zoom, and Google Classroom.
- Availability for planning and coordination calls across multiple time zones.
