To strengthen our Finance, Legal & ICT Division, Optiven Group is seeking to recruit a highly qualified, dynamic, and experienced Data Manager. The successful candidate will be expected to take charge of the company’s data strategy, ensuring proper governance, security, visualization, and management of data in line with the organization’s business goals and legal standards.

Job Purpose

The Data Manager will be responsible for the end-to-end management of the group’s data. This includes data strategy formulation, implementation, protection compliance, analytics, and visualization to support business intelligence and operational excellence. The role requires a critical thinker capable of translating complex data sets into actionable business insights that support Optiven’s growth.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement data policies in line with organizational objectives, legal, and regulatory requirements.
  • Design organizational data frameworks and structures aligned with evolving business requirements.
  • Oversee data governance processes to maintain data integrity, security, and accessibility.
  • Manage data infrastructure to ensure efficient storage, organization, and retrieval of company information.
  • Conduct process reviews to identify inefficiencies and recommend operational improvements.
  • Initiate and lead regular data analysis to identify patterns, trends, and predictive opportunities.
  • Generate actionable business insights to support strategic and operational decision-making.
  • Ensure compliance with global and local data protection regulations, including GDPR, DPA, ISO 27001, and Kenya’s Data Protection Act (2019).
  • Implement robust data governance frameworks and enforce role-based access controls.
  • Conduct regular data audits and monitor data security risks; propose and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Design and implement data security protocols to prevent unauthorized access or breaches.
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate the success of data strategies and initiatives.
  • Deploy AI-powered tools for forecasting, predictive modeling, and process automation.
  • Provide quarterly business intelligence reports to management and key stakeholders.
  • Explore and introduce innovative data analysis and reporting techniques for operational efficiency.
  • Automate repetitive data management tasks and processes where possible.
  • Evaluate and recommend tools and systems to enhance the organization’s data capabilities.
  • Lead, train, and mentor a team of data professionals to uphold data accuracy, protection, and compliance awareness.
  • Delegate tasks, monitor project timelines, and ensure team collaboration for successful data initiatives.
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned from time to time.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field. (A Master’s degree is an added advantage.)
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in data science or analytics roles, with at least two (2) to three (3) years in a supervisory role.
  • Professional certifications in data science, data analysis, and/or data protection are preferred (e.g., Certified Data Management Professional, Certified Information Privacy Professional).
  • Advanced knowledge of machine learning, big data technologies, and statistical analysis.
  • Proficiency in data visualization tools such as Tableau and Power BI.
  • Skilled in programming languages including Python and R.
  • Strong hands-on experience with database management systems like MySQL, Oracle, or SQL Server.
  • Familiarity with cloud data platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Demonstrated experience in AI-driven data solutions, data mining, and predictive modeling.
