The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is offering three internship positions in Market Development—two based in Nairobi and one in Geneva. These six-month, full-time internships are situated within UNEP’s Climate Finance Unit (CFU) under the Climate Change Division. They provide a unique opportunity to engage in initiatives that redirect public and private capital towards sustainable land use and deforestation-free soft commodity production.
Interns will contribute to projects such as AGRI3, RSCF, and AATIF, supporting efforts in environmental and social risk management, market development, communications, and capacity building. Key responsibilities include conducting market research, assisting in financial and economic modeling, and supporting the development of business models that promote sustainable commodity production while preserving forest ecosystems.
Applicants should be enrolled in or have recently completed a graduate or final-year undergraduate program in fields such as environmental or development economics, finance, business administration, international relations, or natural resource management. Strong analytical skills, proficiency in standard software applications, and a keen interest in environmental finance are essential. Fluency in English is required, and knowledge of French or Portuguese is advantageous.
Please note that these internships are unpaid, and interns are responsible for their travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. The application deadline is April 22, 2025. For more information and to apply, please visit the official UNEP internship listing.
