Business Development Manager – Intermediary Management
Location: Madison House, Head Office, Nairobi
Reporting to: Head of Group Business
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a strategic business development plan aimed at expanding the company’s market presence in the Corporate Life sector while achieving set business development targets and revenue goals.
- Identify and evaluate new business opportunities, including potential partnerships, mergers, or acquisitions that enhance the organization’s capabilities and market positioning.
- Collaborate with the management team to set strategic goals and targets for the business development function, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives.
- Monitor industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging developments that could impact the Corporate Life sector.
- Provide insights and recommendations to the management team on product development, pricing strategies, and market positioning to stay competitive.
- Ensure collection of all premiums for business debited in line with the Company’s policy.
- Provide training, support, and marketing materials to intermediaries to effectively promote the organization’s Corporate business products and services.
- Identify and engage prospective clients within the Corporate business sector, leveraging existing networks and creating new leads.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients by understanding their needs and providing customized solutions.
- Oversee the preparation of client presentations, negotiations, and proposal development to secure new business.
- Collaborate with the Group Business team to ensure effective client onboarding and a seamless handover process to the underwriting team.
- Develop and implement strategies to achieve business development targets and revenue growth.
- Identify cross-selling and upselling opportunities within existing client portfolios to maximize revenue potential.
- Work closely with product development teams to identify and develop offerings aligned with client needs.
- Monitor sales performance, track progress against business targets, and provide regular performance reports to management.
- Build and maintain relationships with intermediaries, brokers, and strategic partners.
- Collaborate with intermediaries to identify joint business opportunities and cultivate mutually beneficial partnerships.
- Lead and manage the business development team by offering guidance, coaching, and performance feedback while fostering a culture of ethical business practices.

- Market Research Expertise: Proficient in conducting market research and analysis to pinpoint target markets and emerging customer needs.
- Communication Skills: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; capable of delivering compelling presentations, negotiating contracts, and articulating complex ideas to stakeholders.
- Results-Driven: Demonstrates a focused approach to achieving business development targets and driving revenue growth.
- Financial Knowledge: Solid understanding of corporate life products, pricing strategies, and relevant financial metrics.
Academic and Professional Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Insurance or any other business-related field.
- Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in business development, with proven experience in sales and managing client relationships.
- Professional qualifications in Insurance (IIK), Chartered Insurance Institute (CII), or Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM).
- A Master’s degree is an added advantage.
