The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has officially announced a nationwide recruitment drive to fill 2,014 teaching positions vacated through natural attrition. This vital exercise is aimed at replenishing the teaching workforce across primary, junior secondary, and secondary schools. The Commission has emphasized that all newly recruited teachers will be employed on Permanent and Pensionable terms.
This significant recruitment initiative comes at a time when the Kenyan education system is undergoing extensive reforms, including curriculum adjustments, increased enrollment rates, and infrastructural expansions. The recruitment is, therefore, both timely and crucial for stabilizing the education sector by filling vacant posts that have arisen due to resignations, retirements, or other natural causes.
Breakdown of the Available Teaching Positions
The 2,014 teaching vacancies are distributed across the education levels as follows:
- Primary School Teachers: 1,309 posts
- Junior Secondary School Teachers: 32 posts
- Secondary School Teachers: 673 posts
These positions are spread across the country, with specific allocations per county and school. Applicants are strongly encouraged to visit the TSC official website (www.tsc.go.ke) to view the exact distribution of vacancies by school and region.
Employment Terms and Nature of Engagement
All successful candidates will be engaged on Permanent and Pensionable terms, thereby guaranteeing long-term job security and access to benefits under the government employment framework. This move also reinforces the Commission’s objective of retaining a committed and professionally stable teaching workforce.
Minimum Eligibility Criteria for Applicants
To qualify for the advertised positions, interested candidates must meet the following mandatory requirements:
- Citizenship: The applicant must be a Kenyan citizen.
- Academic and Professional Qualifications:

Important Notes for Applicants
The Teachers Service Commission has issued several guidelines and reminders for candidates participating in the recruitment drive:

- Shortlisted candidates must present original academic and professional certificates during interviews. Photocopies or uncertified documents will not be accepted.
- Manual applications or hand-delivered forms will not be considered. All applications must be completed and submitted online through the specified platforms.
- Priority will be given to applicants who have never been employed by the Teachers Service Commission. This is part of the Commission’s strategy to provide equal opportunity and absorb new educators into the system.
