1. Research Officer – Data Systems – CGIAR Standing Panel on Impact Assessment (SPIA)
Location: Nairobi, Kenya
Contract: 2 years, renewable

About the Role
ILRI is recruiting a Research Officer to support SPIA’s country studies in managing data systems and ensuring data transparency. The officer will offer technical assistance to research teams, enforce data curation standards, and support replication and analytical processes.
Responsibilities
- Guide data curation and replication for large household survey datasets (2025–2030)
- Develop and enforce minimum standards based on BITSS best practices
- Lead training initiatives and provide ongoing technical support
- Review code, verify statistical results, and ensure quality compliance
- Support the preparation and technical review of research outputs
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Data Science or a quantitative social science (e.g., Economics, Political Science)
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience
- Strong programming skills in R or Stata
- Proficiency in using GitHub
- Willingness to travel internationally
- Excellent communication and team collaboration skills

2. Research Associate – Data Systems
Location: Nairobi, Kenya
Contract: 3 years, renewable
Program: Livestock Genetics, Nutrition and Feed Resources

About the Role
The Research Associate will contribute to the development and maintenance of genetic data systems for the African Asia Dairy Genetic Gain Country Program. This role emphasizes database management, software development, and training delivery.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement data management systems for livestock and genetic data
- Develop and maintain tools for data capture and reporting
- Automate data workflows for improved system efficiency
- Provide second-level support to stakeholders and assist with data interpretation
- Ensure secure backups and enforce data quality assurance protocols
- Develop and manage API endpoints and Android applications (desirable)
- Support data systems integration with ODK/ONA platforms
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
- At least 5 years of relevant experience
- Advanced skills in SQL databases (e.g., MySQL, MS SQL Server)
- Familiarity with Python, Linux OS, GitHub, and data visualization tools
- Strong organizational and independent project management abilities
- Desirable: Experience with NoSQL, Android app development, cybersecurity best practices
