About the Role – Driver (Athi River Campus)
As a Driver, you will be responsible for the safe, timely, and efficient transportation of students and staff to and from school and other destinations as directed. You will also ensure that the Nova Pioneer fleet remains in excellent condition through routine checks and reporting.
Key Responsibilities
Transport Operations:
- Operate the school motor vehicle in a safe, lawful, and efficient manner at all times
- Strictly adhere to Nova Pioneer’s door-to-door pickup and drop-off policy for pupils
- Follow pre-planned routes and maintain schedule timeliness
- Collaborate with the bus assistant to maintain discipline and order on board
- Ensure all students are safely on board before initiating trips
- Drive pupils to school-related trips, events, and emergencies as required
- Maintain detailed records including mileage, trip timings, destinations, and any incidents
Vehicle Maintenance and Safety:
- Conduct daily vehicle checks for oil, coolant, tire pressure, lights, and cleanliness
- Report any defects or issues to the Transport Manager without delay
- Ensure vehicles are fueled per the designated fueling schedule
- Keep the vehicle clean and in safe operating condition at all times
- Safely park the vehicle on campus or at authorized secure locations
Compliance and Regulations:
- Adhere to Nova Pioneer’s internal policies including the Employee Handbook and Transport Policy
- Comply with all applicable county and national regulations, including licenses, permits, and vehicle certifications
- Possess and maintain up-to-date legal documents (PSV license, BCE-class driving license, Certificate of Good Conduct)
Emergency Response:
- Immediately report any delays, accidents, route changes, or emergencies to the Transport Manager
- Follow established emergency policies and procedures
- Support students and staff during transport-related emergencies, including trips to the hospital
Health and Safety:
- Conduct weekly inspections for workplace safety compliance
- Participate in Health and Safety initiatives led by the Safety Committee
- Use all equipment safely according to manufacturer instructions and internal protocols
- Report unsafe conditions promptly and assist in addressing them
Culture and Collaboration:
- Fully embrace and promote Nova Pioneer’s culture and core values
- Collaborate respectfully and effectively with team members
- Attend required team and campus meetings
- Exhibit professionalism, courtesy, and integrity at all times
Administrative Duties:
- Provide timely and accurate documentation as needed by the Transport Department
- Collect and respond to feedback to improve service and operational efficiency
- Perform additional duties assigned by the Transport Manager or school leadership
About You – Candidate Profile
Nova Pioneer is looking for a highly skilled and professional individual with a strong safety record and a passion for excellent service delivery. You should be reliable, disciplined, and courteous, with a solid background in operating school or institutional transport services.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Diploma in Auto-Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in school or institutional transport
- Valid PSV License and BCE-Class Driving License (8+ years)
- Current Certificate of Good Conduct (issued within the last 6 months)
- Recommendations from at least 3 previous employers
- Familiarity with Kenya’s highway code and school transport regulations
- Proficiency in handling and maintaining school buses safely
- Excellent client service and communication skills
- Problem-solving abilities and quick response to emergencies
- Knowledge of basic first aid will be an added advantage
