The Brain and Mind Institute (BMI) is a trans-AKU entity that seeks to build capacity in the domains of mental health and neuroscience. In collaboration with partners, the Institute is advancing research leadership capacity and support service delivery across East Africa and South Asia, and other regions served by the AKU. The Institute supports a hub for scholarship exchange and action on mental health issues, as well as educational, clinical, and community-based programs. BMI’s research focuses on the context of today’s youth in Africa and South Asia, while our programmatic offerings address mental health related and brain health issues, including stigma and resiliency. A significant area of interest is the implementation of science-based programing in hospital and community settings that translate new discoveries into prevention and treatment programs

Job Summary

The Brain and Mind Institute (BMI) at Aga Khan University is seeking a Web Developer to design and implement a clean, functional and engaging landing site for the Africa-FINGERS project. This page will serve as the digital entry point for the project providing an overview, key visuals, progress of the project and relevant resources. The website should be built using an accessible platform with scope for light ongoing maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop a responsive website including sections for the project overview, goals and impact, visuals or infographics, collaborators and contact information, and downloadable resources or publications.
  • Collaborate with BMI’s communications team to integrate approved text, logos, and images in accordance with the Brain and Mind Institute’s visual identity.
  • Register the website under the AKU BMI’s subdomain, and ensure the site is mobile-responsive, accessible and optimized for fast loading.
  • Provide limited post-launch maintenance and troubleshooting support for a period of three to six months.
  • Deliverables: The consultant will be required to submit the following:
  • Fully functional landing site for the Africa FINGERS project.
  • Login credentials, documentation and brief user guide for future edits.
  • One round of post-launch revisions.
  • Technical support for up to 3 months post-launch.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in web design and development.
  • Demonstrated portfolio of similar informational or project websites.
  • Strong understanding of modern web development technologies (e.g., HTML, CSS, JavaScript, CMS platforms like WordPress or Webflow).
  • Experience designing accessibility (WCAG 2.1) and mobile responsiveness.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with non-technical teams. 
  • Prior experience working with research institutions or NGOs is an added advantage.
