Job Purpose Statement
As the Data Science Lead, you will spearhead the group’s data strategy and oversee end-to-end data management. Your role will involve analyzing complex datasets, developing predictive models, and providing data-driven insights that inform strategic decisions across all departments.
You will lead initiatives to improve data integrity, security, governance, and compliance—ensuring that the organization not only meets but exceeds data protection regulations. From deploying AI-powered tools to visualizing data trends, your expertise will play a central role in propelling Optiven into a data-first future.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
1. Data Strategy & Governance
- Develop and implement data policies aligned with Optiven’s business objectives and regulatory requirements.
- Design and maintain robust data frameworks that meet diverse business needs.
- Oversee data governance and ensure best practices are followed across the organization.
- Conduct regular audits and enforce access controls to enhance data security.
2. Data Infrastructure & Management
- Manage the organization’s data infrastructure to facilitate efficient data storage, organization, and retrieval.
- Continuously review and enhance data processes, eliminating inefficiencies and optimizing workflows.
- Lead the implementation of data governance frameworks in compliance with Kenya’s Data Protection Act (2019), GDPR, ISO 27001, and other standards.
3. Advanced Analytics & Predictive Modeling
- Collect, clean, and pre-process data from diverse systems including ERP, CRM, finance, HR, and customer feedback platforms.
- Apply machine learning and statistical models to uncover patterns and forecast trends.
- Conduct root cause analyses to identify performance issues and generate solutions.
4. Data Visualization & Insight Delivery
- Develop interactive dashboards and reports using tools like Tableau or Power BI.
- Present clear, actionable insights to business leaders and department heads.
- Track key metrics and performance indicators to measure the success of data initiatives.
5. Marketing & Customer Intelligence
- Analyze customer segmentation, preferences, and behaviors.
- Optimize digital campaigns with web and social media analytics.
- Conduct A/B testing to refine marketing strategies and improve conversion rates.
- Monitor and reduce customer churn through targeted retention strategies.
6. Business Intelligence & Reporting
- Create standardized reporting systems and automated dashboards.
- Deliver quarterly business intelligence reviews to senior management.
- Provide insights to guide strategic planning and investment decisions.
7. Innovation & Continuous Improvement
- Stay up to date with the latest tools, technologies, and industry trends in data science.
- Recommend and implement innovative data solutions to improve reporting and analysis.
- Automate repetitive processes and explore AI applications for predictive analytics.
8. Leadership & Team Management
- Manage and mentor a high-performing data science team.
- Assign tasks, provide technical guidance, and oversee project delivery.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability.
9. Data Security & Compliance
- Monitor security risks and implement mitigation strategies.
- Train staff on data privacy protocols and enforce data protection policies.
- Ensure company-wide awareness and adherence to applicable data laws.
10. Miscellaneous
- Perform any other duties assigned from time to time that align with the role’s objectives.
What We’re Looking For
Experience
- Minimum of 3–5 years in a data science or analytics role, with at least 1–2 years in a supervisory capacity.
- Strong command of machine learning, statistical modeling, and data mining.
- Demonstrated experience with predictive modeling, AI tools, and analytics platforms.
- Proven ability to manage large datasets, extract insights, and support strategic initiatives.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in Python, R, SQL, and other analytical programming languages.
- Expertise in visualization tools like Tableau, Power BI, or similar platforms.
- Familiarity with big data technologies and data engineering pipelines.
