We’re currently recruiting for the following position:


Position: People Operations Officer – Reliever

Location: Head Office – Nairobi
Contract Type: Full-Time, Fixed Term
Contract Duration: 4 Months
Reports to: People & Culture Manager

Job Summary

The People Operations Officer – Reliever is a crucial role within BOMA’s People & Culture team. As a temporary team member filling in for ongoing HR needs, the successful candidate will ensure seamless day-to-day operations in HR functions. You will maintain smooth and responsive employee services, ensure data accuracy, support compliance efforts, and contribute meaningfully to people-centered initiatives across the organization.

You will act as a generalist across various HR functions and help keep operations aligned with BOMA’s values and commitment to fostering a supportive, engaging, and compliant work environment.


Key Responsibilities

1. HR Administration

  • Maintain and regularly update both digital and physical employee records.
  • Ensure HRMIS data and the employee register are always accurate and up to date.
  • Support the offboarding process: schedule and conduct exit interviews, issue certificates of service, and update records accordingly.

2. Recruitment

  • Assist the Recruitment and People Welfare Manager throughout the recruitment cycle.
  • Manage screening processes, schedule interviews, and ensure timely and professional communication with candidates.
  • Uphold BOMA’s recruitment standards and policies during all hiring activities.

3. Compensation and Benefits

  • Ensure employees are promptly enrolled in or removed from benefits schemes as needed.
  • Contribute to monthly payroll preparation by maintaining up-to-date HRMIS records (new hires, role changes, exits, and leave).

4. Performance Management and Talent Development

  • Support performance management initiatives under the guidance of the People & Culture Manager.
  • Help onboard new staff, conduct skills audits, and coordinate learning and development activities.
  • Keep accurate and current training and performance documentation.

5. Employee Relations and Welfare

  • Assist in managing employee relations issues and documentation, including preparing hearing summaries.
  • Work collaboratively with the Recruitment and People Welfare Manager and Welfare Representatives to support staff welfare activities organization-wide.

6. Employee Engagement and Culture

  • Serve as the initial point of contact for HR inquiries, delivering timely and empathetic responses.
  • Support wellness check-ins, staff culture-building initiatives, and general employee engagement.

7. Compliance and Special Projects

  • Participate in internal audits and ensure all HR documentation is audit-ready.
  • Provide support on strategic People & Culture projects, such as policy reviews and onboarding enhancements.

Minimum Required Experience

  • At least 4 years of progressive HR generalist experience, preferably in a fast-paced or mission-driven environment.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Strong personal integrity and ability to handle sensitive information confidentially.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills across all staff levels.
  • Effective organizational and planning skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Sound knowledge of Kenyan labor laws and HR compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools and experience working with HRMIS platforms.
  • Proactive, adaptable, and capable of working independently or within a team.
  • Commitment to BOMA’s mission and core values, and ability to work effectively in a diverse, multicultural workplace.

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resource Management, or a related field.
  • A Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resources or CHRP certification is a plus.
  • Membership in the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM) is required.
