IT SECURITY OFFICER

Role Overview
The IT Security Officer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and enforcing robust cybersecurity measures to protect The Nairobi Hospital’s ICT infrastructure. This includes system hardening, continuous monitoring, risk assessments, and capacity building initiatives to ensure optimal security of information systems and applications from potential threats.
Key Responsibilities
A. Network and Information Security Administration
- Conduct network intrusion detection, vulnerability scanning, and real-time monitoring of systems.
- Administer centralized antivirus solutions and oversee system updates and configurations.
- Perform periodic vulnerability assessments and apply necessary patches and hotfixes.
- Maintain daily operations of on-premise and cloud data center security solutions.
B. Network Security Risk Assessment and Mitigation
- Perform system health checks and monitor access to all network services and devices.
- Enforce validated security change controls as per institutional policies.
- Collect and analyze security data to identify trends and potential threats.
- Track and address findings from security audits and assessments.
- Generate management reports detailing current security status and trends.
C. System Security Risk Assessment and Optimization
- Optimize security configurations across remote networks and communication systems.
- Monitor network performance and resolve outages caused by breaches or vulnerabilities.
- Recommend necessary resources and infrastructure for cybersecurity operations.
- Participate in comprehensive security risk assessments and vulnerability mitigation.
- Design and implement strategic ICT network security plans.
- Ensure staff compliance with institutional security policies.
D. Technical Support, Troubleshooting, and Capacity Building
- Stay updated with emerging cybersecurity threats and evolving security standards.
- Document security breaches and evaluate their impact.
- Train and mentor staff—including non-technical team members—on security practices.
- Disseminate timely security alerts and advisories.
- Collaborate with external IT vendors to enhance cybersecurity efforts.
Key Competencies
- Experience in designing and deploying information security frameworks and network architectures.
- Demonstrated ability to manage large-scale security projects and risk mitigation strategies.
- Familiarity with various information security frameworks and cybersecurity tools.
- Expertise in:
- Systems Security Management
- Incident Response and Management
- LAN, WAN, and wireless network administration
- Server and database security configurations
- Business continuity tools such as storage, virtualization, backup, and restore
- Threat analysis, intrusion prevention, and data loss prevention
- Solid working knowledge of:
- Firewall configuration and TCP/IP networking
- Encryption technologies
- Compliance with security laws, policies, and best practices
Experience and Certifications Required
- At least 3 years of hands-on experience in ICT security within a large enterprise environment.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Recognized security certifications such as:
- CompTIA Security+
- CCNA Security
- Microsoft Certified Security
- Additional certifications in systems audit, compliance, or ethical hacking (e.g., CEH) will be an advantage.
