United States International University-Africa (USIU-Africa), based in Nairobi, Kenya, is a premier higher learning institution distinguished by its academic excellence, global outlook, and diverse community. In line with our mission to provide quality, accessible education and to remain at the forefront of scholarly research and innovation, we are seeking applications from qualified, experienced, and motivated individuals to fill the following faculty positions in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS):


Open Faculty Positions

1. Lecturer / Assistant Professor – Arabic (1 Position)

Job Summary:
The successful candidate will join the Department of Languages and Literature, reporting to the Chair, and will be responsible for delivering academic instruction, conducting research, supervising student research, and engaging in community service initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Arabic language and related fields.
  • Guide and mentor students in academic and career matters.
  • Participate in the design and review of curricula to ensure programs remain competitive and relevant.
  • Develop e-learning content and engage with online learning platforms.
  • Contribute to program assessments and departmental reviews.
  • Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate student research projects.
  • Conduct original research and contribute to academic publications.
  • Engage in service activities within the university, professional bodies, and the wider community.
  • Perform any other duties assigned from time to time.

Minimum Educational Qualifications and Professional Experience:

For Lecturer:

  • A Master’s degree in Arabic Language from a recognized institution.
  • At least three (3) years teaching experience at the university level or in an equivalent higher learning institution.
  • A minimum of 24 publication points according to the Commission for University Education (CUE) Standards & Guidelines, 2014, with at least 16 in refereed journals.
  • Registration with a relevant professional body (where applicable).

For Assistant Professor:

  • A PhD in Arabic Language or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of university-level teaching or research as a Lecturer/Research Fellow.
  • At least 32 publication points, with a minimum of 24 from refereed scholarly journals.
  • Supervision of at least four postgraduate students to completion.
  • Registration with relevant professional bodies (if applicable).

2. Lecturer / Assistant Professor – English Language (1 Position)

Job Summary:
The appointee will contribute to the teaching and research agenda of the Department of Languages and Literature, supporting English language instruction and other academic and scholarly activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in English language.
  • Mentor students and provide academic guidance.
  • Assist in curriculum review and development.
  • Prepare digital content for online delivery.
  • Participate in internal assessments and external reviews.
  • Supervise student projects, theses, and dissertations.
  • Conduct and publish research in the relevant field.
  • Contribute to community engagement and university service.
  • Carry out other duties as required by the department.

Minimum Educational Qualifications and Professional Experience:

For Lecturer:

  • A Master’s degree in English Language or a related field from an accredited university.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of relevant teaching experience at the university level.
  • At least 24 publication points as outlined by CUE, including a minimum of 16 in refereed journals.
  • Membership in a relevant professional body where applicable.

For Assistant Professor:

  • A PhD in English Language or an equivalent qualification.
  • At least three (3) years of teaching or research experience at university level.
  • Minimum of 32 publication points as a Lecturer/Research Fellow with at least 24 from refereed scholarly journals.
  • Supervision of at least four postgraduate students to successful completion.
  • Professional registration as required.

3. Adjunct Lecturer – Spanish Language (1 Position)

Job Summary:
The Adjunct Lecturer will support the teaching of Spanish within the Department of Languages and Literature on a part-time basis and contribute to student learning through instruction and related activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver lectures in Spanish language at undergraduate level.
  • Support students with language acquisition through tutorials and assignments.
  • Contribute to instructional materials and design content for blended and online learning.
  • Engage students through dynamic and culturally relevant teaching approaches.
  • Provide academic support and consultation hours for learners.
  • Assist in assessing and evaluating student progress.
  • Support departmental initiatives and participate in academic events as required.

Minimum Educational Qualifications and Professional Experience:
