Job Summary

The Compliance Officer is tasked with ensuring that all TDB Group operations adhere to internal policies, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices. This role entails performing compliance and due diligence checks in line with TDB’s Compliance Policies, Manuals, and Standards. The officer will play a crucial role in fortifying the Bank’s internal systems against financial crimes and regulatory breaches.


Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to carry out the following core responsibilities:

  • Perform compliance checks on transactions, ensuring proper due diligence, Know Your Customer (KYC), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Countering the Financing of Terrorism (CFT), and sanctions protocols are followed.
  • Conduct KYC checks and periodic reviews for all TDB counterparties including service providers, employees, and directors.
  • Monitor and assess internal practices and ensure they align with current compliance policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to foster a deep understanding of compliance requirements and advise on emerging issues and regulatory changes.
  • Lead and execute KYC assessments to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and internal policies.
  • Evaluate and approve KYC files that are escalated to the Compliance unit.
  • Stay current with global developments in AML, CFT, sanctions, and KYC regulations and ensure TDB policies are updated accordingly.
  • Participate in KYC/AML/CFT-related projects, including the implementation and enhancement of tools and systems.
  • Respond to compliance-related inquiries from external stakeholders and other TDB departments.
  • Review documentation related to the financial closing of transactions, ensuring all compliance requirements are met.
  • Conduct thorough document checks for disbursements, loan repayments, and interest payments.
  • Prepare reports for management, the Board, and external stakeholders as required.
  • Undertake any other duties assigned by the Associate Executive, Compliance or other senior leadership.

Qualifications and Competencies

The ideal candidate should possess the following:

  • A Master’s degree in Risk Management, Law, Business Administration, or a related field from a recognized institution.
  • A relevant professional certification (e.g., CAMS, CFE, ICA) will be considered an added advantage.
  • Between 5 to 8 years of relevant experience, preferably within a Commercial or Development Bank or Financial Institution, in a compliance-specific role.
  • Strong understanding of the regulatory landscape within the TDB Group’s operating regions.
  • Proven ability in conducting research and verifying information to support due diligence processes.
  • Practical knowledge and experience with KYC screening tools and systems.
  • A proactive mindset with keen awareness of AML, CFT, and sanctions-related risks.
  • Excellent communication skills—both written and verbal—with a proven ability to produce high-quality reports promptly.
  • Capable of operating effectively in a multicultural and multi-country context.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities, including sound judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage client relationships and work collaboratively with internal teams.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications and standard compliance software.
  • Fluency in English is required; knowledge of French or any of TDB’s other working languages is a plus.
