Job Overview
As a Driver (Locum), the successful candidate will play a crucial role in facilitating healthcare access across multiple regions in Kenya by driving hospital vehicles—including a mobile clinic van—to a range of destinations. These may include outreach clinics, community health events, and health fairs. The driver will not only ensure safe and timely transportation of equipment and personnel but also contribute to the smooth running of services by supporting logistics, performing clerical duties, and ensuring proper vehicle maintenance.

Key Responsibilities
The Driver (Locum) will undertake the following duties:
- Vehicle Operation and Safety
- Operate hospital vehicles, including a mobile clinic, transporting medical staff and equipment to various outreach events.
- Ensure all assigned vehicles are in sound operating condition prior to and after use.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to assess tire pressure, oil levels, and other fluid checks.
- Maintain cleanliness of vehicle interiors and exteriors to promote a safe and hygienic environment.
- Report any vehicle damage, defects, or mechanical issues immediately to the Logistics Coordinator or Manager, Logistics and Security.
- Abide by all traffic laws and regulations, with particular focus on safety and patient care during transit.
- Maintenance and Scheduling
- Carry out basic maintenance tasks such as checking oil, brakes, and tires.
- Coordinate major repair services and maintenance schedules in liaison with the Logistics Coordinator or Manager.
- Ensure timely servicing and inspection of vehicles as per the operational standards and manufacturer’s schedule.
- Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain a detailed travel log indicating the destination, departure and arrival times, mileage, and purpose of travel.
- Keep accurate records of vehicle use, including fuel consumption and mileage for auditing and planning purposes.
- Document and report all accidents or unusual incidents following the organizational procedures.
- Support for Outreach Activities
- Assist in setting up mobile clinics and logistical arrangements at outreach locations.
- Support with loading and unloading medical equipment and supplies.
- Ensure punctuality and readiness for early morning departures and potentially late returns depending on outreach location.
- Compliance and Liaison
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the Kenya Highway Code and all traffic regulations relevant to commercial driving.
- Liaise with law enforcement agencies, including traffic police and National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) officials, as needed.
- Ensure proper documentation, including logbooks and driving permits, is available and presented upon request.
- Customer Service and Representation
- Represent the Aga Khan Health Services with professionalism and courtesy at all times during interactions with the public, clients, and partners.
- Provide exceptional customer service, especially in dealing with vulnerable patients and elderly persons requiring special attention.

Candidate Requirements
Applicants for this position must meet the following requirements:
- Possess a valid driving license with endorsements for classes B, C1, C, and D1.
- Hold a valid Institutional PSV (Public Service Vehicle) badge.
- Minimum of a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
- At least two years of verifiable driving experience in a corporate, government, or non-governmental organization (NGO) setting.
- Proficiency in basic vehicle maintenance and mechanical operations.
- Good working knowledge of Kenyan traffic laws and regulations relevant to commercial and institutional vehicle operations.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage time effectively and multitask under minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated reliability and availability to work on-call, including weekends and holidays when required.
- Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proven customer service abilities, particularly in dealing with patients and healthcare clients.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team in diverse and sometimes high-pressure environments.
- Willingness to travel to remote areas at short notice and maintain flexibility in scheduling.
